It's wonderful that it worked out for you but shouldn't you have planned better? Didn't you know you would have to repay those student loans?

What I'm saying is, every K-1 that comes here has no income unless they maybe own property that they are renting out or have significant investments that pay dividends. If everyone applied for an expedite because they had no income, what then?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Hi everyone! This forum has been very helpfull to me. So I just wanted to share my experience.

My timeline:

Marts 10th 2019 I entered the US (California)

Marts 12th 2019 I was married to an American

Marts 19th 2019 USCIS received my application for Adjustment of status, EAD and Advanced Parole.

May 28th 2019 I called to expedite my case based on Financial Hardship

May 31st 2019 I received email from USCIS with further instructions to fax my job offer and cover letter.

June 6th 2019 "New Card is being produced"

June 11th 2019 "Card is ready for being mailed to me"

June 12th 2019 "Card was mailed"

June 14th 2019 I received my EAD card which also works as Advanced Parole.

What did I do?

I called to expedite my case based on severe financial loss for myself. This is what I said in notes: I have no financial resources, and by July 1st I need to start paying back my student loans. I have a master degree that is not being used and I would really like to pursue my career. I feel that I'm made redundant not contributing to the American Economy as a working tax payer. Being redundant also affects my mental health not feeling independent and having to be depended on my husband economy. I have a great job offer and have finished all interviewing. The start date is June 17th 2019.

What did I fax?

- I used this coverletter: https://www.marecaranne.com/2019/01/ead-expedite.html

- My offer letter

- Copy of the email from USCIC.

I hope this might help other people in the same situation. I know how hard it is not being able to work and get your life going here in the US. I'm super excited to be working and hope for everyone that the wait time soon will be over.

Thank you for this forum!

Did you use any proof for financial hardship other than the offer letter?

Just wondering, though - should people who filed an expedite fill in their timelines? I filled in mine and I can't indicate (except in the comments) that it may not be representative of a 'typical' case. I'm worried that it could artificially decrease the actual estimates.

Congrats LAdane! :) Did you apply for the job before moving here or after?

They USCIS did not ask for any proof of financial hardship. They simply wrote: "Please fax proof of your financial loss, such as proof of a pending job offer, to the following number".

Congrats LAdane! :) Did you apply for the job before moving here or after?

When I frist applied for my K-1 Visa a year ago now, the wait time for a EAD in california was 3 months as the longest. As I finally got my K1 visa and travelled to the US in March 2019, the wait time increased to 6.5 - 8 months. There was no way my husband and I would get that to work financially. So that's when I started looking into expedite and applied for a job.

Thank you! Just out of curiosity, what did you respond to jobs when they asked if you could provide proof of authorization for employment upon hire during applications and/or interviews? We also initially applied for K1 almost a year ago and we weren't expecting the EAD timelines to extend this much or the complications that come with waiting for the green card (such as EAD expiring past the 180 days extension etc). So we are rolling with the punches but it would be good to be prepared in cases where this question is brought up.

Thanks in advance!
