Sufficient evidence of Relationship?

Hi everyone!

First, I just made an account here so I apologize in advance if I commit any snafus or if my post violates any etiquette of this forum.

My fiancee and I are applying for a K1 visa and will be having our interview at the Kiev embassy. I have been going through the checklist that the embassy provides and have been trying to figure out if we will have sufficient evidence of our relationship.

We have been together in person seven times over the past two and a half years for a total of about eight and a half months of time physically together if you add it all up. Our passport stamps will corroborate this. I also intend to bring; travel itineraries/booking receipts from flights we took together, a few hotel confirmations, scanned copies with envelopes of letters we've sent back and forth, approximately 30 photos of us together while traveling and photos of us with each other's families, sworn affidavits from two of her cousins and sworn affidavits from my parents. In case it's relevant to proving our relationship, I also plan to attend the interview with her.

We are both so excited and so nervous to be getting closer to the interview, so I just want to make sure we bring all the documents we'll need. If it's recommended to bring additional documents as evidence of our relationship please let me know. Thank you in advance!

You should include evidence of ongoing chats and messages to and from each other

Thanks so much for replying! Would you imagine that it would be sufficient just to grab 40-50 pages or so of Whatsapp messages, or would you recommend printing and bringing our entire chat log?

Bring a representative number (not too many or few) of printouts that span your relationship.

They should convince a possibly skeptical stranger (the CO) that your relationship is bona fide.

Don't redact or black out anything.

Do NOT include anything in which you call yourselves "hubby/wifey" or similar, even playfully!!!

Kiev is not known to be a tough embassy, so you might not be asked for copies of correspondence.

However, it's best to bring too much and not need it, rather than the converse.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Great! I'll go through and pick some stuff out. Thank you both so much for your help.

  • 3 weeks later...

in addition to the advice already given,

if you do not have them already:

(1)

i would suggest that each of you write a 'proof of ongoing relationship' letter stating the information you shared above - date and sign it (black ink).  it would contain details things like when you met and how and where, trips together, etc.    have your fiance do the same.  there are several examples of such a letter (proof of ongoing relationship) on the internet.  again, one letter for each of you signed by the person writing the letter

(2)

also consider 'statement of intent' letters stating that you are able  and plan to get married within 90 days of the arrival - date and sign it (black ink).  also mentioned where (ex: which church and its location) marriage will be performed at.    again, one letter for each of you signed by the person writing the letter

we did not supply transcripts of chats and we were approved.
