Do they really have that option thought? I was under the impression that regardless they need to stand in front of a judge. They can't just say "I changed my mind I want to go back home now".

I understand the DPRK has some modern versions of concentration camps.  The camps the Roosevelt administration set up could possibly be considered concentration camps.  Of course the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries were rife with gulags.  I don’t think any of those compare with the housing and services illegal immigrants get at the border.
