@Blake001 Please join the VAWA thread, You will find most of your questions there. Take your letter to your local social services office. And a general FYI people who are getting benefits through prima facie (or USCs due to abuse) are usually exempt from the work requirements.

It can vary state to state but generally yes. Domestic violence is a special case for many things. You know how in the immigration process VAWA allows the abused victim to get the same benefits as an immigrant with a non abusive spouse would. Its a concept in the law known as 'making things even' so to speak. VAWA allows victims to do the process they would have been entitled to if the spouse was not an abuser. SNAP and medicaid benefits kind of work the same way. If you are getting them because you are a victim of abuse then you are a victim and the gov does not require the same things from you as they do able-bodied adults who are seeking benefits. The way it was explained to me was that requiring victims to jump through hoops (like normal applicants have to) is considered placing an undue hardship on a victim who is seeking assistance due to abuse.  Some VAWA applicants are able to get SNAP and or medicaid along with other benefits depending on where they live. The prima facie document is required by the social services agency for them to qualify as an immigrant less then 5yrs with special program provisions like not having the must seek work requirement or work training requirements.
