Last year from march until September there was a slow down because my wife had the same issue. I wasn't tracking after  September since she got her interview date in Sept for OCT interview. She was DQ'ed in May and we didn't hear anything until september 20th. No need of reaching out to NVC or embassy because they can't change anything.Just have to wait.

Since mid 2019 things have been moving slow for interview scheduling at Mumbai. 3-4 months. In 2018 it was invariably 1-2 months max. Except a few of us when things moved to CEAC electronic submission of docs for Mumbai in Sept 2018. At time only for small bunch of us there was no interview scheduled for 4 months while the rest at Mumbai got their interviews scheduled fast. So, I spoke directly with the NVC Director to have him move things. The very next day an NVC supervisor called and gave me the IV date   All of us who were stuck got an interview email a week later!

But remember I only escalated things because others were moving at the same consulate and some of us weren’t. If your pace is the same as others you need to hang on.

Hi all,

I'm hoping some recent interviewees from Mumbai can help answer this.

Our K1 and K2 interview (i'm the US petitioner, fiancée and her daughter is from India) should be coming up in the next month or 2. My fiancée's parents REALLY wants to see us leaving together, when she finally leaves her home to come to the US for good. Problem is I can't take 2 separate trips to do both this and be present at the interview in such a short time. Basically I have to choose one - go to the interview with her and her daughter, or respect her parent's wishes. It's a tough decision to try to make. Any recommendations? suggestions?

Can she handle the kid herself for 23 hours and read/speak english ?

If thats the case, go for the interview.

If she can read basic english and handle the kid, she can fly alone, its not like strangers are gonna enter and exit mid flight like a train.

As for the interview, plan on landing the day before the interview that way incase you get 221G. you have some time to stick around and get it sorted, if you get the visa stamp before you leave, good enough, just be preapred to pay extra for last minute tickets, assuming she can get same flight as you.

As for her parents wishes, they can survive it doesnt meet, its not the end of the world and also they ain't footing the bill.

I would strongly suggest to ask wht the fiance wants and not what her parents,. she/he is an adult and should be able to think for herself

Great suggestions... thanks.

The fiancee also wants to go to usa together and she "thinks" she can go through the interview by herself. the kid is a teenager. But based on the reviews on this site, I think I should be there with her for the interview....

Brace yourself for my honest feedback ha ha!!

Pro: I will tell you that after three years through K1/CR1 and watching many people through the process it would be my personal opinion that female fiance's from India are rarely denied. My husband and many other male fiance's on the other hand were/are not approved (due to assumption of fraud wanting to marry an American woman for Immigration whereas that assumption does not exist towards an Indian woman wanting to marry an American man - clarifying that I mean location of citizenship and not ethnicity). I guess my point is that she has a high chance of approval in this K1 situation overall.

Con: When you attend the interview in Mumbai there's a slim chance (not impossible but slim) that you will even be allowed to the window. I attended...was told to sit down (and moved as far away as possible by security officers) and we received a 221g with no explanation. We had other friends on the K1 interviewing same week...one of which attended and another who did not...both approved. Also, God forbid anything go wrong and you do get a 221g you'll have a long journey ahead and may need to make a second (or third trip) if you attend in person for the interview.

P.S. I went for the first and we received 221g. I did not attend the second (CR1) and he was approved. Go figure!! 😁

Win/Win:

Personally, I believe it's more important that you honor her parents wishes (because it's already hard enough to be part of an extended multi-cultural family) and that they feel comfort with their daughter and grandchild walking away in your care. I think it's also good for her to be empowered and show that she is confident/capable of managing the process (just arm her with photos, summary of your story, your job details, income, etc. so she's well prepared). It's just a happier ending for everyone involved.

Wishing you the VERY best through the next steps!!

Hi everyone. I know that this thread hasn’t been active recently, but is there anyone here who has successfully expedited at the NVC stage? Or does the Mumbai Consulate not accept any expedite requests?

I have never heard Mumbai consulate expected anyone’s immigration application.

i am a part of a group On telegram for a year now and several people tried it. None were successful.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve heard that it is easy to expedite at NVC stage. In some countries they even accept reasons such as celebrating birthdays and anniversaries together. However, I have never read about any successful expedites at the Mumbai Consulate. I was trying to expedite due to medical reasons. I provided all evidence and a letter. The NVC forwarded my request to the Embassy, but they weren’t willing to expedite.

Yes. Mumbai is not very generous in that area. Also. Embassy in Mumbai is closed right now dut to on going pandemic. And the back log this will create will make it even more tough to expedite.

Yeah. I was also thinking the current situation will make it very unlikely for them to expedite. I heard that India is under lockdown until May 3rd. Do you think the Embassy in Mumbai will open once the lockdown is lifted or do you think it will take even longer for them to re-open?

It takes time to staff a remote site, it may not resume immediately and may take additional 2-5 weeks after the country lockdown is lifted
