10s of thousands? Are you valuing your time putting together applications that much?

Everyone's situation is different. Some people have to hire attorneys which costs thousands. And in my own situation I have spent thousands of dollars travelling back/forth to the country where my fiance resides as I can't sponsor him until I am a citizen. So the extended wait in NYC is costing me a lot of money.

CITIZENSHIP TIMELINE

4/2019: Submitted N400

5/2019: Biometrics (3 weeks)

2/2020: Interview (10 months)

3/2020: Oath & naturalization (11 months)

6/2020: Passport received (3 months)

Officially a U.S. Citizen!

I just called USCIS and they said the only impacted field offices are Atlanta, Miami and Brooklyn (I hope I remember that right). My field office and Phoenix, got the "transfer update" on more than 2 weeks ago, but no letter/ PDF document uploaded yet. I was asked to wait 30 days for it to be uploaded or mailed. 30 days??! Usually after an update status the letter/PDF document comes the next couple days!

I filed n400 as well. And living in phoenix az. Do you mind if you tell me what date you filed your n400. Please i would appreciated. Mine is March 1st 2019.

Bio-metrics Schedule: 03/09/2019

Eh, a lot of us in less populated areas already have to do this. Whether it was our main office or the one they transferred to, it was at least a hotel stay, and a day or two off work. The oath ceremony (when they feel like scheduling that, 4 weeks and counting today) is likely to be the same deal.

My husband's CR1 interview was in another country, after all. This is as bad as that.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

They could switch to an interview booking system that provides paired options of time-to-interview and travel distance, and let applicants choose. The further the travel distance you choose, the sooner the interview date. Let the market decide.

Looking at the field offices locator here:

https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/field-offices

If you select "Washington" state, you'll see that "Portland Field Office" shows as one of the results. Which supports some users' experiences with case transfers from Seattle to Portland.

If you select "Texas" state, you'll see that "Oklahoma City Field Office" shows up on the list. Does this mean that Dallas & Houston's case overload could potentially transfer to Oklahoma ?

Has anyone looked at this list prior to the June 17th announcement ?

Rather than sending dozens or hundreds of applicants to an office 2-4 hours away, wouldn't it make sense to send a few immigration officers to a neighboring office for temporary duty? For example, send 2 Portland officers to Seattle for a week, then send 2 different officers the next week, and so on.

I know CBP/Border Patrol does this - apparently a lot of airports have seen increased wait times because of officers getting sent to the southern border for temporary duty assignment.

Seems this is meant to "equalize" wait times rather than speed them up. Similar to having each cash register have its own line versus one master line with people going to a register as it opens up.

Some of it has to do with the limited physical space in their existing building. See

@pearla I don’t get the same results.  I still get the Irving office.  But looking at the case load from last quarter, I suspect that if my husband’s case were to get graced in, then it would be OKC, El Paso or Harlingen, TX.  May it happen, but who knows.  I will keep an eye to see if my local office changes.

The reason why Portland shows up when you search for Washington state is because the Portland field office officially serves a number of zip codes in the Washington state.
