Enter your processing center in the link above, and get estimated waiting times.  6 months open isn't even halfway through the wait for some centers.

We sent our papers to Chicago from Montreal. Its not even in the processing center time.

Your receipt number will tell you which centre it has ended up at. If it starts with NSC, for example, you're in Nebraska.

Six months would be early to have heard anything back.

Thanks. Receipt start with LIN. Weird because I saw somewhere it take between 8-12 months before everything is done, I need to look where I saw that.

Edit; When I look at the receipt the bottom left corner it give the Nebraska service center address, so I guess that is the place.

Apparently I lied.  Nebraska is LIN; apparently they use both LIN and NSC, because why would anything with USCIS be consistent?

Nebraska is currently taking 11-12 months to approve the I-130 so it's completely normal that you're still waiting. The 8-12 months used to be the average amount of time it took but things have slowed down quite a bit recently so it's no longer accurate for most people. If things stay at the current speed you're looking at about 16 months minimum for your visa to be approved.

The best thing to do for now is to fill out your timeline so that you can get an estimate of when your I-130 will be approved.

Welcome to Nebraska. Strap in. It'll probably be another 6 months before your 1-130 is approved and another year from now before you have your visa.
