Hey guys I'm filling out the I-130 currently and on Part 5 it asks if I have previously filed a petition before for an alien.

I have actually back in 2004 but I don't know the exact date filed, is there a way to find this information? Thanks!

Not really,  fill it out with the best information you can remember.   If you need more space for an explanation,  attach a supplement

YMMV

According to the instructions for an I-130, if you don't know the exact date to explain why in the extra section. So that's what I did. I had no idea on the I-130 filing date, but I had an idea on the visa approval date and the POE date. So I just put those down. It also said to explain why you don't know the exact date.

I put that due to the divorce, I no longer have access to any of that paperwork. But to the best of my knowledge things happened on "x" date etc. Someone else on the forum said to do this and they had theirs approved without having an exact date either.

Yeah I will do that, good advice. Same thing here, divorce caused some lost paperwork.

Do you happen to know what it means by NAME? Like maiden name of person or just current name. Also PLACE, would that be the USCIS location you filed at or your own address you filed from? Thanks so much!

I couldn't remember the exact date of a previous I-130 filing (1996) when I submitted an I-130 last year so I just estimated the month and year, and my husband's CR-1 visa was approved last week with no problem.

Name for the previous I-130 would be the name it was filed under.  And place would be either USCIS if filed in the US or consulate abroad if you did DCF.  Good luck!

Hey thanks. For "Place" it only has a city/town option. So I assume it would be the city/town where that USCIS center was located at? It's not referring to where I was living at the time right?
