And far beyond USCIS, the Federal government has unlimited time and resources to make our lives miserable.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

If you dont have a green card you cant get an I-551 stamp.  Thats a green card stamp.

I-552 does not exist

Form I-551 is the official and technical name for a permanent resident card.

(back of a green card below; see top left corner)

Immigrant visas usually have the following text on it: “UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR.”

(below is an example of an immigrant visa with the CBP endorsement)

Quote

When a new immigrant first enters the U.S., U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will stamp the passport with an admission stamp that indicates the immigrant has permanent resident status and has the date the new immigrant entered the U.S.

.

.

If the stamp in the passport is endorsed and is near but not on the immigrant visa, it is still a valid endorsement.

Thank you! So I-551 not I-552? And this is for all types of immigrant visas? The original post is K1 I think. I’m CR1/IR1

I have worked for the Federal Government for over 20 years. To be honest most agencies are not built for customer service. They are built for processing paperwork. In my personal dealings I have found that the IRS has resolved my issues over the phone the best of any agency I have dealt with. The SSA is abysmal. This K1 process has been very frustrating compared to my first K1 which was effortless all the way trough naturalization.  Good luck with giving feedback to USCIS that anyone will listen to. Their standard reply to your and your Congressperson's questions is that your case is undergoing security checks. This immediately stops any further inquiry in its tracks and they know that.

Finally done...

I-551 is the official name for a green card. A K1 visa is not a green card. CR1/IR1 are visas that GRANT you permanent resident status upon entry. But the CR1/IR1 itself is a visa, not a green card.

Well last time I've called them about trying to recover my USCISAccount, that didn't work out as 1 guy just hang up on me telling me "Why do you need a USCIS Account when you are a US CItizen?" and hang up.

It only worked making a new account. It explains how bad their customer service are.

Gosh, hanging up on you because you didn’t rapid-fire your SSN at them seems a little harsh. I definitely have mine memorized but sometimes phone conversation wig me out and I could see myself stuttering over being asked routine info that I know.

I’ve only had to call USCIS once and I must have gotten lucky. Call wait was reasonable. I called while my husband was at work and they asked to speak to him. From what I learned after, they usually don’t like to give out info without confirming with both parties, but I guess whoever I talked to was feeling helpful.

Unrelated, but I work for US DOJ and if anyone wants to call me at work I’ll be the most pleasant federal gov worker you’ve ever spoke to! It’s a slow Friday...

My experience with USCIS call center hasn't been bad so far. (They have been civil even if unhelpful at times.) However, I wanted to add that I did find that submitting e-request has resulted in same turnaround time as calls. Sometimes, it has been better.

I highly encourage OP to submit e-request as well.

01/09/2019  Mailed ROC package via FEDEX to Lewisville,Texas

01/11/2019  Package delivered to USCIS office

01/16/2019  Received text message with service center as SRC

01/17/2019  Status on https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/ as accepted. Check submitted electronically to my bank. Not cashed yet.

01/18/2019  Check cashed electronically.

02/07/2019  Called USCIS regarding non delivery of receipt . They asked me to call back after 30 days have expired since delivery

02/11/2019  Called USCIS again regarding non delivery of receipt. Mentioned that license will expire along with greencard on 02/28.

The lady filed a request on my behalf so i could schedule infopass.

                        I separately also filed e-request(https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayNDNForm.do?entryPoint=init&sroPageType=ndn

by choosing I-751 and other option , before calling USCIS just in case.

02/13/2019 Got callback from USCIS that infopass cannot be scheduled, but they will mail

                       a duplicate notice.

11/08/2019 Biometrics got completed

03/24/2020 Case status got changed to card being produced

Correct.

In my opinion, the CR-1 is better than K-1.

The K-1 is a nonimmigrant visa that allows dual intent.

visa.png

Upon entry, they have K-1 nonimmigrant status for 90 days. After marriage they can submit I-485, the form to apply for lawful permanent resident status within the United States; in doing this they still won't have a status after the 90 days are up, but they'll have authorized stay allowed by the US Attorney General. They can also submit I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, and/or I-131, the form to apply for an advance parole document; both forms are free to file if they pay the I-485 fee (about $1225). They cannot legally work until either the I-765 (about 7 to 9 month wait) or the I-485 (wait varies wildly from 3 to 22 months) is approved. Travel outside the US: they wait for either the I-131 (about 7 to 9 month wait) or the I-485 is approved. If they leave the US whlie the I-485 is pending without approved advance parole, then USCIS considers the I-485 abandoned. In that scenario, they would have to begin the CR-1 process instead.
