Social security card restriction

Hi. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I just want to make sure I’ve got the correct documents.

I received my EAD card in the mail on June 1st but still haven’t received the SS number (I ticked the box on the form to get one). However... I applied for one before I sent the AOS application at the SS office which has my married name on it but it says “valid for work only with DHS authorization”.

So my question is, is this the correct SS card while I have the EAD or should this condition be removed now? I’m wondering if that’s why I haven’t got a new one - because it’s already up to date? Does this condition only get removed once you have the greencard?

thanks!

The box on the i765 is to get issued a number for those who don't have one yet.  You have one

YMMV

Its removed when you get greencard, that’s why you have the EAD which is the DHS authorization to work

Okay that’s great. Thanks for your help! I did think that’s probably the case but I wanted to make sure! My greencard interview is on 27th June so I’ll be able to get those conditions removed soon anyway.

EAD is the work authorization from DHS, so you are good to go.

You can apply for a new SS Card that won’t have such statement after getting GC, not mandatory, your choice.

It's optional, but an unrestricted SS card is an acceptable List C I-9 document: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents/list-documents/form-i-9-acceptable-documents?topic_id=1&t=c

Yeah, why would a GC holder go with List C requirement that also needs List B requirement when List A replaces both B and C requirement?

Long-term outlook: if they become a naturalized citizen when eligible, I don't visualize them carrying the naturalization certificate while job hunting. Some citizens use a state DL (or ID) and an unrestricted SS card. Other citizens use a US passport.
