As we all know, the immigration process is a very long, complicated, stressful ordeal........and it requires a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and money.........a lapse in ANY of those areas usually results in a poor outcome or serious bumps along the path.

You are exactly right and I am to blame for lowering my guard after visa in hand. Bad move, lesson learned. We will solve it within next week and apply and it should be fine, although it will be rather last minute.

Thank you everyone for clearing this up! It is the doctor appointment that is making us cut it close but it looks like we should hurry up. Thank you for all your replies 🙂

Just wanted to mention, you said you were cutting it close because of the doctor appointment.  I don't know if you are referring to the medical I-693 that is part of the AOS process, but since you had a medical as a K1, you don't need to repeat it if it was within a year of your AOS interview.  You don't have to submit the medical with the AOS application anyway, you would submit it at your AOS interview if you did need to have another medical done.  For the application, just send a photocopy of the DS-3025 vaccination sheet if you have it.

If by doctor's appointment you are referring to something else, then you can ignore this post. 👍

Hahahah my apologies. I did browse through the history quickly but I did not find the answer to my question and perhaps I should have searched for longer. I am well documented on how to file, but I did not have the knowledge on this topic in particular. I hope you do not find it overly irritating. 🙂

It is not really a bad question, it just seems like there has been quite a few recently, and since technically the AOS filing is not deadline driven it does seem to cause some confusion.  As many of the other august posters mentioned, the general recommendation of members here is to file the AOS as soon as possible after a K1 marriage.  You do not have to complete a new medical if you came on a K1 unless the time it takes to adjudicate the AOS takes an excessively long time and USCIS will tell you that if it is necessary.

So as others have said, file as soon as you can.

Good Luck!

I was actually referring to getting the transcription of records that must be done by a civil surgeon, along with me getting 2 more shots that were not available in Romania to meet the requirements. In order to not get ripped off, we are to travel quite a bit and we unwisely put it off for too long. Although we did have other issues too that luckily got resolved this week concerning my SSN. We applied two weeks in but the office kept messing up and even at this date we did not receive my card (all the fuss turned out to be the office's mistake because they omitted our house number in the address....) but we finally got them to give us the number itself (luckily it got issued) so that got solved.

One civil surgeon visit and we should be good to go! We will apply asap and my status should be all good.

Sorry for not being clear enough in my explanation! What I was talking about was the civil surgeon visit along with getting 2 more vaccines.

No worries.  Yes, the 3025 has to be completed.  Back when my wife did the AOS the most convenient civil surgeon would not transcribe the 3025 for her without doing a new physical.

Wait with the i-693 and bring it to the interview instead. You don't have to send it with the initial application. You have a lot of time still. Just send your AOS as soon as you can.

Because you did not complete the vaccines abroad prior to or at your overseas medical exam to be signed off on the DS3025 at your exam, you will have to complete them prior to being approved for the GC.

You will NOT have to complete them prior to the I485 application though and, with current interview wait times, it's not advised to.

NinaLu have you also applied for your social security card? If you do it now you'll be able to get one before you are out of status on July 2nd. The cut off is 2 weeks before your I-94 expires so go get that taken care of now. If you don't get it done  then you can't get a social security card till after you  file your I-485 form and have your work permit card in hand. That is taking at least 5-8 months now.

BUT you should check your DS3025 for completeness.

You may have been given a waiver for "vaccines not routinely available" and it could be marked complete in the bottom left corner.

I wouldnt assume you need anymore vaccines until you check that out.

I was not aware of this at all. I will now have to do further research. Thank you so much for pointing it out!

I was told before that not sending everything together with the application would complicate and slow down the process. It seems I was wrong and need some fact checks. I am really grateful for you guys pointing it out. If i can just bring it to the interview, we'd be ready to send the application in by very early next week.

Hello! I have already applied and thankfully we finally have been issued it! 🙂 I am glad we applied for it when we did because it took a long time for it to be issued due to errors on the office's side.

Sorry, I have clarified above that I was referring to us putting off the trip for seeing a civil surgeon rather than a regular doctor. Bad phrasing, I should have been more clear from the start. However it seems that that might not be necessary at the moment anyway!

Yeah, it’s not right now. Please file. My husband and I witnessed a wreck so we had to talk to police. I had all the NOAs in the car, but I was nervous.
