But it's not my responsibility. I am not the job police. There are agencies out there to enforce the laws. Sorry they aren't doing their jobs. Maybe I should call and report them for not handling their job the correct way. Moving on.

So, referring to my previous post, if you knew a business was using 10-year-olds for hazardous manufacturing work, you wouldn't do anything about it?

If you knew a murder was happening next door, would you call 9-1-1? You are not the police. You are not being murdered. You don't knw anyone related to the person murdering or being murdered.

None of your business?

As I said, moving on. Fight amongst yourselves now.

Oh ok I see how you play. When you are called out, you can't even defend your own actions or answer the questions about it.

I hope that your attitude will substain you at night if you ever get caught with knowledge of crime and end up facing criminal charges for neglecting to report them.

Forget about employers. Lets hit the banks and mortgage brokers. They issue credit cards and loans to people with bogus SSN's too. Ya know, it would probably just be easier in the beginning to just ask people for ID.. I bet you could hit 5 out of 10 at least for several years..

You can get charged for that?

 We've had cases thru here that were just that. It can be as simple as a perjury charge... it could be aiding and abetting or it can be obstruction of justice. Some states are harder on it than others.

*edited to say* In Illinois you have to lie or withhold the knowledge from a police officer or other official.

More likely to happen in cases regarding organized crime, terrorism, gangs, etc., but yes, it can happen. Sometimes all the way up to first-degree conspiracy, which is usually sentenced in the same way that the crime itself would be.

I did not know that....

Speaking of times when people let the law get broken and don't report it... our HOA wants us to call the cops when we see high-school kids walking over the grass maintained by the HOA... I never have and don't think anyone ever will. They're just kids! Anyway sorry that was off-topic :)

heheh I know where that off topic comment could lead. I doubt any prosecutor is going to go after you for not reporting that some kids were trespassing because they walked across a lawn :P In that case it would be misdemeanor trespassing and the kids probably wouldnt' even be arrested, just warned. So I think you are ok :P

I'm not one to jump into political threads, or even ones with *touchy* topics. But I am so angry by what's going on in my neighborhood that I have to say something.

I live in California... Southern California to be exact. Our state is going to sh*t. If I discuss this openly, I run the risk of being called a "racist". Funny thing is, my sister-in-law is from Mexico. She came here legally and has followed all "the rules". She works legally, and she's ticked off too.

I am not a racist. I do not hate mexicans.

I just don't find it at all fair, that rules apply one place and not another. If we're going to make it ok for every illegal to stay here in California, work, get driver's licenses, etc. then I should be able to do the same in any other country. YES, I'm going to ask that we abolish visas and immigration laws completely! Why have rules? I should be able to go to Canada next weekend to join my husband. Demand a job without a permit, and get a driver's license. I also want them to take care of me, give me free medical, and fun stuff like that.

I have no objection to people wanting a better life. But rules are not rules if they don't apply to everyone. California is supposed to accept every illegal alien from Mexico with open arms, yet Mexico themselves deport Guatamalens all day. (Actually, the US pays for their deportation; we figure it'll save us money because most of them are just using Mexico as their expressway to get to the US). If we deport, we're racists... so why don't they accept the Guatamalens based on that theory with open arms too?

We have a country that was attacked in 2001. We have Al Queda's living in Mexico, learning the language, blending in - because they know how damn ez it is to come here.

We have banks in So. Cal handing out mexican flag souveniers to get new customers, allowing Matricula Consular cards as formal ID to open accounts. No SS# needed.

My best friend is a science teacher in the LA school district. He loves to teach. His kids love him too. His students walked out Friday, didn't come in Monday, were locked in on Tuesday (only half there). Why? Most of the kids interviewed DIDN'T KNOW WHY they were protesting. The saw it on myspace, it prolly sounded like a fun day off from school. Anyone want to take a guess at how much it cost the State to pay all the teachers for those days?

Again, rules for one group of people, but not for another. I'm sick of it. Go ahead and tell me how much i suck. I don't care.

Thanks for your opinion. As someone who actually lives in an area most affected by illegal immigration out of Mexico, I value your opinion above that of many others.
