Nonsense. If Israel, a tiny nation of 5 million, can afford their 400-mile wall, somehow I think we can

find the money to build a 2000-mile fence along the entire length of the border.

Israel's wall doesn't work :)

And building the fence isn't the issue - it's a matter of manpower. Allow me to explain;

You have a border which is 3.2 million metres long. This border is in the middle of the desert for the most part - hence, you need a specialised force with specialised logistics to defend it. Unless you wish to build a 3.2 million metre wall which is about five metres high, made of pyramidcal concrete, with a moat and razor wire, it needs defending. Walls are terrible at keeping people out - you need men on them.

So, let's have a guard tower at every 100 metres. That is 32,000 towers. In each tower we will place a single man - because we are trying to keep the numbers down. Let us assume each man is armed with an M16 as standard. That gun has an effective range of 550 yards - which means any point of the wall is covered by - at most - 5 guns.

Behind the lines (in addition to the ancillary requirements to support these 32,000 men) we will need "fire engines" to handle any problems in the lines. Assuming a response speed of 100kph (which is pretty fast) and a desired response time of 30 minutes (which is slow) you need one "fire engine" per 50 kilometres. This is 64 dedicated armoured units - call it 10 men each.

Work on an 8 hours on, 8 hours off, one week on, one week off pattern, and we see we need a minimum total of 130560 men. These are fighting men - not the ones who bring them food, water, bullets etc., nor the ones who man the 130560 billets needed for these men. Plus the officers, of course.

Can't be done.

You are doubtless asking, "Why are you treating this like a military exercise?" The answer is, because it has to be. If you put up a fence, it WILL get knocked down by someone driving an 18 wheeler through it, or cutting the wire. The fence needs to be patrolled - and it's simply too long. People risk everything to cross the border - it's the desert! Hundreds die crossing it - they are not going to let a wall stop them!

Smaller fences, perhaps - but one that big? Not a chance in Heaven.

Israel's wall is only "illegal" inasmuch as it's built on Palestinian land in some places. There would be

absolutely nothing illegal about building a wall to separate the US from Mexico.

Which side of the river are you building it on? :)

Yes, it was an obvious exaggeration (even Israel doesn't have minefields), but you got the idea --

and it would be, in fact, a powerful deterrent.

It would be brutal and barbaric - and ridiculous. Where do you put it? On the Mexican side of the fence? Then you need another fence to stop kids wandering into the minefield. To be effective, a minefield needs to be about 100 yards deep - add in the requirements for the fence (call it an average of 25 yards across the length of the border) and you are looking at a total of 400 square kilometres of US soil which is nothing more than military terrain and cannot be used for anything else.

You know what this reminds me of? The Berlin wall - an ugly scar on the landscape built by to keep people in a particular place.

I'm not saying let everyone in - but a fence isn't the answer. It will cost too much to enforce and ruin your standing in the international community. Which is, let's face it, not exactly high right now.

Darknight,

Your arguments are solid, but your maths is way off.

No-one in their right mind would put a guard tower at every 100 meters. Multiply that

number by 10 and put 10 security cameras in between, and suddenly you only need

3,200 men to guard them -- not a large number by any account.

You also seem to think that the wall needs to work 100% to be effective -- it's not.

Even if it keeps 90% of illegals in Mexico, it's already a worthwhile exercise.

Israel's wall works. Trust me -- I've been there, I've seen it. The only reason it doesn't

work 100% is because it's not finished yet. Of course, there are problems --

underground tunnels to name one -- but it doesn't mean it's ineffective or impossible

to support.

It reminds you of the Berlin wall -- fine. Where is the Berlin wall now? It came down

when the time was right. Some day, when Mexico becomes a developed country, the

US-Mexico wall could be easily torn down, but that time hasn't come yet.

actually I don't think there's a relationship between K1 visa processing times and how many illegals come to the country, unless the USCIS personnel gets mad and doesn't wanna work that day they find out in Fox News.. lol

and.. also I don't think the illegals take less time to get legallized.. I think it takes a couple of years.. yes.. more than k1.. again.. not sayin its something that I approve.. but I don't think illegals will shorten ur K1 process a week or 2

I agree.. I wouldn't say Mexico it's no developed.. but politicians have screwed up this thing.. making it a 'moral obligation' for the US rather than our homework for the future.. leaving Mexico's economic future on the money illegals send its ridiculous..

and sincerely, I've never seen how USA is obliged to receive the ilegales.. all that Aztlan ####### and Chicano power and California is ours and Texas too well.. it happened a long time ago, suck it up...

Let everybody in and out as they please. #### the consequences, this is how it should be. Especially with those countries that agree to the same for us. End citizenship, tear down artificial borders. I am you are they. Oh and those people all crabby about how "illegals" are jumping ahead in line while you wait... How come you don't just come in illegally and jump in line too, if it's so easy? Go on.

Why stop with citizenship and borders? Let's repeal all laws, too. Put away with them courts. And government? Who needs it? Let's get rid of that as well. Can you see it? Do you want to?

and not only in this thread.. he posts a lot of facts and figures of how americans (white people) are having less population than 'colored' people and how immigration (legal and illegal) is gonna end up whiteness.. added to his constant bashing of Mexicans (probably all latinos, but as many Americanos, they like calling them brown people Mexicans..)

and yes Arijit, I got kinda 'attacked' by a Kinist in my blog.. telling me the sins of miscenegation and how we aliens were the Antichrist in White CHristian America.. so.. I kinda know their lines and arguments.. lol

As usual Pedroh...you take things way out of context and portray yourself as the victim to gain sympathy. Why don't you go back and read the original posts instead of talking trash 14 pages later.

If you remember...I called you to task in the past (just as I did Fischkoepfin) for talking trash and throwing out the race card. A common tactic of the Left when they don't get their way or others disagree with them. It was you that repeatedly posted comments about "gringos and whitey" in many of your past posts and then excused yourself by stating that its OK because you are married to a white woman. Talk about a cop out! Life is a 2 way street buddy. Being a minority does not excuse asinine comments about others' race.

There was also that closed and deleted thread months ago where I called you to task about declaring that Mexicans were just retaking (Reconquista) the portions of America that rightfully belong to Mexico. That illegal immigration is justified.

I have found that when you can't debate any further you tend to throw out the race card with abandon and I have often remarked that there is no point in trying to debate you in any civil manner.

I know who I am and how I have lived my life. You don't know me or what I'm about. Don't make accuasations by insinuation. McCarthyism and innuendo is no way to promote your position.

Just because I don't agree with most of your agenda (and several others here) is no reason for personal attacks. I think most people see what you are up to.

Adios...I have better things to do than take innuendo from you.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

I will always use the race card as long as you talk of mexicans as the evil race that only wants to invade USA.. NOT all mexicans are illegals.. not ALL of them wanna come to USA and live.. there's a big difference between the stupid azz government and the mexicans.. it's true that govt doesnt want to stop illegal immigration.. but that's different to say that Mexico harbors criminals and that they all want to cross the border and rape, kill, and live from the Americanos SS money...

now.. u're the one that usually posts the graphics and trends of 'how americans are loosing their land'.. and if u read carefully, those sites that u post are from wasp-glorification agenda groups that claim how the anglo-saxon is loosing power, and will never accept the sons and daughters of immigrants as 'americans'..their facts and figures include americans and 'immigrant kids'.. im sorry but an immigrant kid is as american as u or any other...

if I talk about the reconquista.. yes.. California was taken from the stoopid war from Wilson. do I take it seriously? ###### no.. do I dream about Aztlan and all that #######? hell no.. California ruled by good for nothing idealists of Aztlan? no thanks

I will debate in a civil way as long as u don't start with 'all the mexicans are criminals' and all that BS that u post..

Excuse the f**k out of me.... I take great offense to that. I am further left than most people and I have never once even considered using the race card because that is wrong. But you Right wing bigots will only see things the way you want or whichever way suits you best anyway. I'm sure you also don't give a flying f**k if you offend me anyway.

Why do I even bother
