Hi everyone! Idk if this is the right forum to ask, please move if not. Thank you!

Married March 2018

PD June 2018

130 approved December 2018

DQ/CC June 2019

From USCIS stage to NVC stage we used my maiden name. I haven’t change any yet and planning to change it when I renew passport next year. Now i’m waiting for interview date and I will still be using my current passport with my maiden name.  Is it possible to request that my GC and SSN will be my married name during the interview to avoid paying more fees when I get to the US and change names on both GC and SSN? Can I do this at the interview or how do I start? Thank you so much.

No. Visa and GC will be in your passport’s name. If you want it in married name either change your passport now or pay I-90 fee after you get your green card.

If I change passport now, it wont be the same as the passport bio page I submitted with I-130 and CEAC, will this be fine?

We did it during the process too.  They changed her last name during the interview.  Super easy.

I live in Toronto and PhilCONgen toronto is saying it will take 8weeks to renew. I’m already waiting for interview letter if I get lucky I might have interview date first week of August. The office is closed so idk if I can expedite passport renewal. How did you do it? Did you tell the officer? Thank you.

Yes she requested a new passport just after I filed.  We thought our interview was going to be in six months and it was going to take 8 weeks to get the visa.   She did not have to surrender her old passport.

Can I still tell the officer about name change even if im using my maiden name passport? I dont think renewing is a good idea now if it will take 8 weeks for consulate to issue my new passport.

She did it at the Embassy in Mexico City.  She also applied for the NBI Clearance.   We did not expedite the passport.   She was told 8 weeks like you but she had it back in about 10 days.  Her passport was going to expire in 13 months and was getting kind of full.   They didn't really ask anything other than the copy of the ROM and were pretty pleasant about it.  We did provide a prepaid DHL envelope in Mexico City so we didn't have to pick it up in person.

I think so.  We provided the copy of the report of marriage that we did at DFA Hong Kong.

Double check with the consulate.  You should be able to keep the old passport because you are not in PI.

That too. Thought we can register our marriage in California so we waited. It was my fault not researching. Found out I need to register our marriage at the consulate here in Toronto where we got married. Just found out today so I don’t know if It’s a requirement on my interview.

Well then I think I shld just wait. How long did it take you to get the ROM?

Thank you. I have to call again tomorrow. It’s June 12 so it’s a holiday for them.

You don't need that for the US interview.

I know in Philippines Consulate LA people can do both in two separate appointments.  ROM and then Passport.   I saw that in Hong Kong too.

I think it took 3 months to get the ROM from the NSO in Manila . By then she had already left to Mexico.  You only need it for the new passport (and if you want to reacquire PI citizenship).  Had we known we could have done both together it would have been much easier.    To do the passport the ROM only has to be filed but not NSO recorded.

Or let it be and when you naturalize, change it officially
