I had my F1 visa interview a few days ago and got it approved. I have received a mail that my passport has been found damaged (though it was in perfect condition when I submitted) and needs to be collected from the embassy itself. The mail is

Dear Applicant,
The passport submitted by you is in a damaged condition, we request you to come and collect your damaged passport from the Embassy on any working day (Mon-Fri) between 3:30-4:00 pm. Please note we need a new passport from you to process your visa application further. You may come to Embassy at gate no.6. Please note your token no for collection of your passport is TOKEN NO 5130. Please bring a photo identity card when coming to the Embassy.

I need to know if I have to follow the complete application process again or just submit a new passport directly to the embassy. Please help with this.

HI Sahil,

You have to submit a new passport. I suggest you to apply for a new passport. If you are an Indian national, you can apply online, select an interview date. Hardly a 1-2 hr procedure. The entire process is really simple and streamlined. Just opt for a Tatkal option and within a week you will get a fresh passport.

In between can you share your timeline i.e. priority date,i-130 application acceptance and all.

It will really help.

Thanks.

None of this is relevant for an F1 student visa - this is not the F1 family preference immigration category.
