NVC checklist - Birth Certificate

Hi everyone,

Here's an update on our case:

- All documents uploaded to NVC on May 27th

- Everything approved except birth certificate (explanation below)

I am applying as a French citizen but I was born in Romania. I initially uploaded a birth certificate delivered by the french government for people born outside of France (I thought this is the one required).

However, the NVC rejected it. I called the NVC yesterday and was told they need a Romanian one.

Here comes the problem: I do have my old romanian birth certificate dating from 1989 but it is handwritten. The format required by the NVC is a new electronic version (not handwritten). The problem is that I can't request for this as I don't have any Romanian ID/Passport.

I uploaded my old one and waiting to hear back from them...If they refuse it, what could I possibly do?

Thanks!

It doesn't appear to require a Romanian ID but merely an ID document

YMMV

Yes, I am starting to look into the procedure and see how it goes.

However, do you think that my original document (handwritten) will be accepted by the NVC and the consulate? I mean this is truly my original birth certificate so it should be accepted, no? Even though it's not the "latest format". Any thoughts?

The site says no alternative documents.   Only one way to find out for sure

YMMV
