K1 Visa DX Courier Issue?

Hello,

I literally posted on here a few hours ago being happy about how the interview went (I still am!) but I have a question about the delivery of the visa/my fiancé’s passport.

When we were booking the interview, we had to pay the fee, by default it had collection from a DX depot as the courier option, with the ability to go in and set home delivery instead after the payment. We paid, then after went in and switched to a home delivery instead of picking up a depot. Here’s where I’m a little confused... after we paid, we immediately got an email saying that our appointment was booked with the fee and the courier selection showing the default depot option. When we went in and changed that right after, we never got any type of update email reflecting the change from depot pickup, to home delivery. Were we supposed to get any type of email with the updated courier information?

We opted for home delivery because my fiancé doesn’t have any other form of ID apart from her passport which is obviously going to be inside the delivery. She also doesn’t have any utility bills or anything of that nature. The address we set is her brother’s address for it to be delivered because that’s where she was going to be staying and someone would for sure be around to sign for it there.

I’m really nervous and stressed now because if it goes to the depot to be picked up, won’t they ask for ID to pick it up? My fiancé made a scan of her passport picture page before handing her passport off at the interview. Would the confirmation emails/texts she gets for the shipment along with the tracking number, and clear scan of her passport be enough for her to collect it if it doesn’t end up going to the home address we selected? I’m so stressed out about this now because I don’t want her to not be able to collect her passport with the visa. Has anyone had any experience picking up things with at a DX depot? Do they require ID and are they super strict? I know it’s not set for sure that it’s not going to be delivered to the home address we chose, but I want to be prepared in case it never went through as a courier change. Thank you.

Don’t know about DX - but most parcel delivery companies (and Royal Mail) will accept a debit or credit card as identification, in the UK...

I don’t think she has her debit card anymore due to her closing her bank account a little bit ago because of her moving. Same goes for her credit card I believe. We’ve either used cash or my own credit cards for things. Guess all I can do is pray that it’s going to the home address we selected...

Depot pick up is free so you only paid for the visa fee online. When you went back in. Did you pay a fee equivalent to $30 USD? If not, you are still at depot maybe.  I think DX is not as strict as one would imagine. They never asked for my ID when they delivered. They sometimes just push it through the letterbox or maybe the letterbox down the road. I've read interesting stories on here.

Anyway, whether depot or home or brother's house, whomever is there is supposed to have her ID. She can always say, open the package and get my ID out. 😲🤣😂

Yeah I’m almost positive we did go in and pay another fee afterwards that would have been the amount of $30. Would you get another email saying you paid that though? I guess we can find out for sure when she gets tracking info.

Can she actually say that to them, that her ID is in the package? Not sure if you were joking about that part haha! The only other thing I can think of is a birth certificate as ID. Really unfortunate that her only ID is her passport. But if DX isn’t all that strict, do you think she could just show the emails from the embassy along with tracking numbers, emails, and texts from DX? We also took a scan of her passport photo page that has her name, picture, passport number, issue date, etc. all on it and very clear to read. It was leftover from when we needed ID to get her ACRO.

I think she can get by with that if they even ask. I know you're used to all this precise proof of things in the immigration process,  but the DX drivers are just blokes that aren't really bothered.

Mine got delivered yesterday. I had to sign for it but they didn't ask for ID.

The website that you did your ds160, can you log back in and send the confirmation again? Might have the updated dx courier details

Yeah just went back in and turns out it’s going to a delivery depot, not the address we put in which is unfortunate. Do you think it’s possible to contact the courier once we have tracking info and pay a fee to have it delivered to the original address we selected?

Just checked the courier info and I guess it never went through as the courier change to an address, so it’s going to a depot. She has a birth certificate and the photo picture of herself on her DS-160 confirmation page as well as a scan of her passport picture page, plus all the texts and emails from the embassy and DX themselves. Would they just hand it over to her with all that you think?

Or if all else fails, could she literally just say to the person at the depot that her ID is in the package and if you want to see if then get it out? I may be overthinking all this, just worried that for some reason she won’t be able to get it. But I would hope a birth certificate would be enough. She literally only has her passport as ID and I hope they understand.

If she's as cunning as my wife, she'll talk them into handing it over.  I wouldn't worry about it. Tell her not to be a timid rabbit, but someone who needs that visa and "get 'er done".  I don't know if the wrapper is still clear, but I could see my passport inside. My wife would for sure say, "See that passport in there? That is my photo ID, so you're going to have to accept some of this other stuff."
