My husband and I are going to be traveling from the midwest to Austin, Texas this weekend for a vacation/check out areas to move to after the immigration process is over. I've read a lot about traveling domestically during the process and I mostly think it'll be okay, but of course I am paranoid during this process. My i94 expired just today and we received the NOA1s for aos a couple weeks ago.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I've heard people are seldom asked about their immigration status but I have heard it is a lot more common in texas. Am I likely safe with a passport, marriage cert. and NOA1's?

I know this is boarding on paranoia but just wondering if anyone has recent experience on this

I've traveled to about 5 different states since my i94 expired, they never even looked past the first page of my passport.

Never needed to use my marriage certificate, or NOA, or explain anything

keep your noa1 on hand, but you should always have a copy of that with you anyways. the odds of you being asked for it are slim to none.

Thanks for the responses! They help me a lot, we are going to austin so I don't even think its close enough to the border/we are white (as sad as it is that that matters)  but yeah I had heard even at an airport like dallas there are sometimes CBP officers randomly.

Sounds like no one has had any issues, I guess why would we a noa1 shows in status. Thanks so much

of all the things to worry about when travelling, this wouldnt be one of them.

as bad as it is to say (please dont shoot the messenger!) if you appear to be Caucasian and speak English, no one is going to be concerned about you

Since Austin is far from the border zone internal checkpoints, you should be fine with the documents you mentioned. Hope you enjoy Texas!

Just to be on the safe side, I would suggest that you bring the documents that you mention. There is a recent case, mentioned in the forums, where a lady was detained at a Texas airport, after a CBP officer asked to see her documents, she had none. As a consequence, she spent  5 weeks in detention, until things got straightened out. What a way to ruin a vacation or other trip.:o :wow:

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thank you for the advice all. It was super smooth, no documents or CBP in sight. So for anyone who goes to Austin as well in similar status, all should be okay! Of course, I still worried the whole time and brought all my documents but its better to have them all and not need them.
