The last week of June, Stefano and I are heading north on 65 from Indy to CHICAGO. Stefano has never been and we are planning on spending 2 or 3 nights in the area. It looks like hotels cost about $350 a night OUCH! So, one thing we thought of is staying on Lake Michigan somewhere and then driving into town during the day and then out at night. Does anyone know anything about the Harbor Country area of Michigan. It says it is 75 to90 minutes from Chicago...doesn't sound too far....Union Pier? If anyone is from this area or been there...can you give any recommendations? Or should we just stay in the city?

THANKS!!!!

How about in Milwaukee?

Otherwise, Michigan City (IN) or Benton Harbour (which you called "Harbour Country area", MI) sound OK.

I have never been to Milwaukee. What is it like there? Is it far from Chicago? Stefano really wants to see Chicago.

Milwaukee is less than 160 km (100 mi) north of Chicago; it is closer to Chicago than Rockford (IL).

I just found a place in Southport Corridor Lakeview/Wrigleyville. Is it easy to get to the city from here? It says the EL train is near. Would you recommend taking that in?

I go to Chicago about once a year. Took Andre there last year.

I always stay in the city....a few blocks off Michigan Avenue is the best. The reason being almost everything is within walking distance, free trolley, bus service, and/or the El (subway). Driving and parking in and around Chicago is difficult and expensive at best.

You can find reasonably priced hotels downtown. On the high side, we paid $159 a night. Last time we stayed, we payed $98 a night. Check Expedia.com. Also, try and contact ChristineJames on this site. She offered to help me last year. See if she can help you. She does something for her company with hotels.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Just be careful, since sometimes traffic on the main highways into Chicago can be a nightmare... Especially during rush hour... So you will want to keep that in mind too!

You don't have to pay 200+ a night and stay downtown to see Chicago. Where ever you stay in Chicago there will be a train that runs downtown. It will cost $2.00. Look for somewhere that has access to a Red,Blue, or brownline. The El is very safe and easy to use. You do not want to drive and pay $20 to park. You could even stay in the burbs near O'Hare or Evanston with easy train access. PM me if you need any more info. Wisky is just like Indy milwaulkee would be fun for summer fest but good luck finding a room between June 28-July 8th plus it's too far to drive with traffic.

Check out Hotwire.com

search hotels using zip 60614

results for June 29th- July 1: tons downtown under $200 at end of june
