NBI Clearance With Previous Married Name

My wife successfully applied for and received an NBI clearance back in February 2019. However, US Embassy is asking for one with her divorced name. We're confused as how to move forward with the new application. Should we:

  1. Apply for a totally separate NBI clearance under her previous married name OR
  2. Should we apply for an updated NBI clearance and just add her previous married name under the "AKA/Other name" field of the application form.

We're thinking that we should submit another application and the only difference will be adding her previously married name under the "AKA/Other Name" field of the application form. However, my additional questions are:

  1. Will the AKA/Other Name show in the actual NBI Clearance?
  2. Is personal appearance needed when applying for an updated NBI Clearance?

I look forward to hearing from anybody. Thank you in advance.

1.  Yes to completing another application in married name w/AKA* for previous married name & maiden name for the new NBI.    (AKA*  = ALL names used)

2.  Online is possible.   https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph/

Hi Hank,

Thanks for the quick response.

The initial NBI clearance application was done online. However, her personal appearance was required. She had to fly from Japan to Philippines complete the process.

Do you know if she would need to again appear personally for the updated NBI clearance application?

I would think for those in a foreign country a trip to the Philippine consulate in that country should handle any personal appearance requirement.   I would contact the Philippines consulate in Japan regarding this.

Just checked,  the consulate in Osaka will handle the personal appearance requirement (thought they did)

Thanks Hank. I also found the process for Tokyo location: https://tokyo.philembassy.net/consular-section/services/miscellaneous/nbi-clearance/

Yes, it would make sense that all consulate locations would offer the NBI service.     Flying all the way to the Philippines did not seem logical  (ya I know, logic and government don't mix  ;)  )
