Eh, got a 55" for $350 when the 2007-vintage 42" 1080p (that was $1200, natch) died last year.

 

I don't think I'll get another one until a similar-sized OLED or MicroLED or some other new display tech that actually looks significantly better than what I've got is under $500. Or this one dies, whichever.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

My AKL flatmate passed away yesterday. Four days short of being shoveled into a care home she wanted nothing to do with. 

She was not a person for whom life was ever easy.

Neither of us were people who put any stock at all in the great hereafter, but I'd like to think that she is somewhere cozy, with enough to eat, and endless cups of tea, a comfortable chair by a fire, with plenty of books to read.

I'm so sorry to hear about her passing. Perhaps she can be at peace now.
