My wife, she's retarded again...

She can't understand why I don't just pay cash for a new car.

It's a bad year for car dealers. And the summer months are even worse. Interest rate on a fairly new used car is 2-3%.

If I finance 20k over 5, what's that come to? About 300 a month?

She can't understand that if I finance the 20k, I'd have the 20k in my pocket that I can invest and get 10% all day long! Minus taxes and service fees, I'm still ahead by 5%.

So she does her pygmy math, and said "but that's only about 10000 profit over 5 years"

I'm like "sigh, yeah but you'd have the car, and your original 20k!"

She still doesn't understand.

Fuggit I gave up trying to explain...

See, my wife is still sick in her fook mentality along with her schmuck friends. All she can think of is that we'd have to pay interest. Not understanding that we'd be making it back from another source. This is all her friends. That's what they do...

Man, I'd love to get 10% on any of my investments.

That said, you're right about purchases made on super low interest rates. It still amazes me that I got a 3.75%/30 yr mortgage for a $212k house with only a $4k down payment and no mortgage insurance, 3 years ago, in a market that's booming. It's like someone handed me $208k and said, "go play with this money and we don't care if the money earns you 2-3% growth annually in a hot real estate market for 30 years... we just want your principle and low interest payment on time, each month."

Any 401, IRA, asset manager,  stock portfolio should get you the bare minimum 10% annual for many consecutive years.

If you're not getting that, you should be tinkering with it.

Some funds have average returns of 15-20% annual return for 20, 30 consecutive years. Where are you looking?

Ever heard of a "target fund"?

Pick a year, they start high risk high return, then as you get closer to your target date, they reallocate gradually to lower risk lower return to stabilize.
