My internet has been shocking since we were hit by lightening back in August. It comes and goes, works for a bit and then stops. I've lost count of the number of times I've rung these people, only to be told it's my router, it's my cables, something is wrong on my end. 

It went off again last night, and came and went at about 2 minute intervals.  This morning it went well for about an hour, and then was gone again. It's usually pretty pointless ringing them, but anyway I did. After the usual babel getting through to an actual human, come to find out they thought it maybe just wasn't me. It might be my lines into the house.  An actual English speaking person, that in itself was a shock.

 

So..I asked, how many days until I can get this repaired? Christmas you know,  and all of my family are in different countries and it would be jolly well nice to be able to speak with some of them on Skype. Last time it was five days for Pete's sake.

 

Would you believe two hours.  A very old guy, looking quite a lot like Santa himself. Opened the box outside and asked why the heck is it all blackened and scorched in here? We were hit by lightening I said, and the last tech said this was okay to leave. Well, he yanked it all out and threw it in the bin. Replaced it all, went up and down the road for half an hour in his cherry picker truck and actually tracked down the broken bit and mended it.  800 feet from the house.

We are good at last.

 

I did get the little tree  up, and the bits and bobs around the place. Herself thinks I am nuts.  I am

I have port, cheeses & bloody marys & that's as close to Christmas as I'm likely to get.......although I am going over to Ryan's sister's for informal family brunch tomorrow morning it will be nice to see everyone.

Brunch sounds like a good plan. I'm glad you had a good holiday away in the sun. Must have been a bit of a shock coming back to the colder weather!

 

Port. Oh my goodness. I've had the feeling for three days I've forgotten something!  I wonder if our local purveyor of adult beverages, called Pig Trail Liquor has port.  You never know your luck. Our first year here, only in the place a couple of days, I was shocked to find an actual mince pie in the local grocery. Never saw  one in the large town we came from.  I'm doing my own, later on today.

 

One rule I've always had at Christmas is everyone gets toys. I don't give a toss if you are 9 or 90. This year, Daisy has put out an adult version of the “official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.”  Himself is getting one.  It comes with safety glasses these days, so he won't likely shoot his eye out

I misquoted. It is ON the Pig Trail (Scenic Pig Trail they say on the sign) but it is in fact called the Hog Trough.  And no, no port. I don't think they had ever heard of it.

 

On into town to the Sonic for ice cream (68 degrees here today, very Christmassy)  Saw another sign for the Red Barn liquor store and yes they had port. They had Tawny Port even, and two bottles of NZ Ice wine which have come home with me.  I'll do
