Driving in snow with an automatic...

First confirm, if possible, if you have anti-lock brakes. If you do, just keep the brake pedal down for as long as you need to slow down. The anti-lock system will ensure that you won't skid. If you don't have anti lock breaks, then you need to gently pump the brake pedal to continuously slow down.

If you can't confirm whether you do or don't have anti-lock brakes, then go to an empty parking lot and build up some speed, then press the pedal to the floor and keep it pressed down. If your car skids all over the place, you don't have anti-lock brakes. If your car sort of jerks along and eventually slows to a stop, then you have anti lock brakes.

Finally, if you do have anti-lock brakes, then the jerking motion can be a bit scary. Just be prepared for it and know you don't have to do anything else other than to keep the pedal down.

Good luck.

Abs doesnt prevent skids.  It may help prevent some sideways motion but any car after like 2000 should have ABS.

It just helps by automatically pumping the brakes for you.  You'll  feel it like a vibration against your foot.  Ive still had plenty of ABS enabled cars slide about on ice and snow when stopping.

With snow just drive slower and understand there may be ice underfoot.  So a downhill to an intersection may mean regardless of how hard you push your brakes, you will slide through.  Or an uphill means you can't go. If it snows a lot where you are, you get winter tires. They help you stop and turn and go.  Stopping can be improved by nearly half the length of the best all seasons.

I suggest winter tires for Michigan.  On steelies.  That way you're not upset when the rims (aka wheels) touch things.

I'm frozen and my electric blanket burned out last year. i still don't have new one. I'm in here freezing. I'm dressed like the Stay Puff Marsh mellow man and the Jedi is running around in only his undies. He climbs up on me radiating heat. how is this even possible?????

Needless to say can I have summer back? The whole point of leaving the cold north was to be warm. but NOOOOOO we have to have crazy cold weather here already and nobody in the house will let me turn the heat up any higher than 72.

He's male.  Every man Ive ever been in physical contact with seems to have an internal heater.

My spelling isn't the best, I remember Ryan telling me about him winning the spelling bees when he was a kiddo.

Ok, so.....where should I go? I'm going away for a week or two, I'm thinking Hawaii but open to suggestions-I'm looking for warmth & beautiful beaches.....Bali? .....I've been to Thailand & I loved it but probably wanna go someplace different....Goa?

I'm here to stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a day, phew. So we braved the freezing rain, lovely sis(in-law) came & got me, drove through hideous road conditions, there were so many poor folks involved in accidents(some more serious than other-please let everyone be safe)....the Interstate(only road to get there from here) had been closed & the traffic was so backed up-goodness only knows how me were only a few minutes late.

When we got there the place was EMPTY, apparently there weren't meant to be any interviews scheduled for today but somehow ours had slipped through. The lady who saw us was so understanding, she cried when she looked at our photos(I just sat & cried the whole time-my face, eyes & head hurt) she said there's NO WAY they could possibly refuse me, just a quick form to sign & I have approval-I should receive my green card in a couple of weeks.

Coming home I felt like a weight has been lifted off of me to some degree.

Once my green card arrives I'm going on vacation, somewhere warm, by the sea to sit & catch my breath, & decide what to do upon my return.

Thank you all so much for all your help & support, you've helped me a great deal more than you may know ❤️

Congratulations!

I am so pleased for you!  :joy:

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Hi is wonderful, I am told. My in laws were there in September, and they raved about the place. I think there was a helicopter tour involved. From the photos, they were on Lahaina  Maui and Koloa  Kaua’i . My experience there won't help. it used to be a stop over between NZ and LA for fueling, but we were kept in a transition lounge and didn't see a thing.  I've got a sister living on Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos and she loves it there, but from October it is the rainy season, so not very beachy.

Maybe check out a  local travel agency where you are? Things like trip advisor are good as well.

Wow, how cute are these guys? Those silkie chicks are amazing, I've never seen one other than in a photo.  They look so soft!
