We have snow, I just passed my test & got the car & we have snow. I have driven in snow on occasion back in Scotland but it was always with a manual gearbox where I could use the gears for breaking-this worries me.

It's pretty impossible to provide the usual evidence of joint names on things being that my husband's name has been removed from accounts/lease/etc when he died.

I'm really scared of how all this is going to go, but y'know what, how much worse can it be? Nothing that happens can change him not being here with me.

Driving in snow with an automatic...

First confirm, if possible, if you have anti-lock brakes. If you do, just keep the brake pedal down for as long as you need to slow down. The anti-lock system will ensure that you won't skid. If you don't have anti lock breaks, then you need to gently pump the brake pedal to continuously slow down.

If you can't confirm whether you do or don't have anti-lock brakes, then go to an empty parking lot and build up some speed, then press the pedal to the floor and keep it pressed down. If your car skids all over the place, you don't have anti-lock brakes. If your car sort of jerks along and eventually slows to a stop, then you have anti lock brakes.

Finally, if you do have anti-lock brakes, then the jerking motion can be a bit scary. Just be prepared for it and know you don't have to do anything else other than to keep the pedal down.

Good luck.

Hang in there ya old git!

I thought Scortish women were tough..

Tough as old boots this un! 😎

I drove to the bereavement support group this morning, all by myself despite the subzero temps brrrrrrrrrrr I was glad I went, it was good to see the folks there-some of whom I'm making friends with. Today was music therapy-fun making noise with lots of shakey-bangy things!

I managed to find a checklist & spoke again with my attorney so have been working away on it-I went to the bank, they were so lovely & able to give me a print out showing we'd had a joint account. I just ordered prints of some photos of us together-some of which were taken in the hospital....it's chuffing heartbreaking & I almost feel sorry for the poor USCIS person that has to look through our photos!

Anyroads, it's all coming together for Thursday & I just have to keep hoping I'll be allowed to stay.

Thanks again to you all here for your support-much love to you all ❤️

it's almost over, well not winter that is just starting for you. But the first part of your immigration journey is almost over.

Big hugs and hopefully you can relax soon and try to find your new normal.

I'm frozen and my electric blanket burned out last year. i still don't have new one. I'm in here freezing. I'm dressed like the Stay Puff Marsh mellow man and the Jedi is running around in only his undies. He climbs up on me radiating heat. how is this even possible?????

Needless to say can I have summer back? The whole point of leaving the cold north was to be warm. but NOOOOOO we have to have crazy cold weather here already and nobody in the house will let me turn the heat up any higher than 72.

The dog and me wish we had that rule in our house, but as they say, "Marry a woman from a tropical climate, something, something , something, get used to living in an overheated house."

It's really cold here too. I replaced my heated mattress topper last winter, and man that thing is on a half an hour before I go to bed. I cannot be getting into a cold bed.  Fortunately for Himself it has dual controls. His isn't on so far this winter, mine is set to nuke.

For extra added value in the colder weather, he decided Sunday last to fix a persistent dripping noise  in the loo. While attempting to tighten the bolts that hold the tank to the rest of the unit, he cracked it. The bright spark that installed the darn thing in the first place did not put a shutoff on the water intake. Waterworks, everywhere, man those things have some serious pressure in them when they start spraying at random. No loo, not good. Having to flush the thing with a bucket is not my notion of an ideal solution.

So yah, Sunday night, nothing open, Lowe's closed for Veterans day on the Monday.  I drove an hour to the nearest one yesterday, and bought a whole new loo. I think the one that was in there might be original to the house.  All in place now, very flash.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Man, that really sucks. But, you are a quick study it seems, you haven't been here all that long and have already made the transition to tire spelled in American!  Hopefully you can get that darn thing replaced soon once the snow tire rush is over.

I am glad you have a ride, and company, for tomorrow. I know your stress level must be through the roof, so sending you good vibes, and we will be thinking about you tomorrow. Please let us know how it goes?  :)

Sadly since my older kids are also from the cold cold north they say I'm killing them and out number me. The Hillbilly buys me an electric throw almost every year. i am wrapped in it all the time with it on high. I keep killing the darn things.

If it wasn't for my asthma being triggered if the house goes lower they would turn the heat down on me. but I have constant attacks when it gets below 70. Being allergic to the cold sucks.

I need to get one, I didn't know you could set it to only one half being heated. I didn't want the Hillbilly to get over heated because of my crazy high temps. it's pretty bad when I'm sitting here waiting for these so called hot flashes to come.

Man your place sounds like it was built buy the same crazies that built ours. We have to go out to the street to turn off the water as the main shut off in the house is well a missing.
