Your Turtle is so cute, SAT.

Why do you call her turtle? That was one of the nicknames we had for my daughter when she was younger.

Why thank you...

We started calling her "turtle" because, developmentally, she's a little slower than the older one.

But now she's picking up fast. She's quite ingenious.

Both have a photographic memory, like me. Except now, I can't remember what I had for breakfast...

Miserable day yesterday. At about 1400 give or take, we had one of those sudden out of the blue thunderstorms pop up. One of the loudest booms I have ever heard and a simultaneous huge flash right outside the house and of course the power went off. Seems we had a lightening strike on a  transformer nearest the house. I called the power company to report the outage, and the person on the phone sent me outside to look at the meter, which showed no numbers.  While out there, I noticed a great deal of mud, and rocks and bits of wood flung up against the side of the house, and on the car, over an area about 30 feet. Seems lightening also hit our fence, exploded a four x four oak post and  blew the gate right off the hinges.

The power company sent a truck out, and the  power was back on quick smart, a good thing given the temps yesterday. It was getting very hot inside.

So I tired the various bits of appliances and the like that were on at the time, and all good.

The internet however, is another story. I have what amounts to very slow dial up. It took the best part of 4 minutes to load this page. I don't know if it will even post in the end, because I am getting a timed out error most places. I called Century Link, they say the problem is external. The also said I can't get a tech out here until August 30.

The other issue wasn't apparent until last night when I went to bed. It seems there is no power to any of the outlets or switches along the entire west side of the house. Nothing works on that side. I had to run extension cords to fire the O2 concentrator for himself, and to have any light in the room at all.

The  only other casualty so far is to the coffee maker. It is fried. Drinking foul instant this morning.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

It might have tripped a main breaker in your panel. You might have 2 main breakers. You'll likely need to replace it. It won't reset. It should be marked in yellow.

Nothing marked in yellow. It's not a new system by any means.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Check to see if all the switches in the breaker are on the same side. If one is just slightly off that has been tripped. Flip it back and forth to reset it. I'm not sure if you will be able to upload a picture with your terrible internet.

Our panels don't have anything yellow on it either. They just flip side to side. Old house plus lightning that close may have fried them.

Time to call the insurance company and have an electrician check everything.

When I was living in MN our neighbors had lightening strike their house and it took our our garage door opener, underground sprinkler system, refrigerator and tv. The current ran through their sprinkler system jumped (arched) 2 feet in the ground and ran in our system frying it.

If a whole side of the house has no power, it's a main that flipped. It's usually on top of a column of breakers. That main powers the whole column.

That will depend. Ours does not have that. We have a main switch outside and she should go check out there to see if the electric company flipped everything back on.

Here's a picture we don't have the two switches up top inside the house. Just the two rows below of switches. Anyone of those switches can be the issue as they usually daisy chain up to 8 plugs/lights to one breaker.

I need to have a conversation with the Dane about our "garage".  It is reaching a point of ridiculousness. I repainted it 3 years ago, I think, but the wood was already partly rotten, so obviously it is peeling and more of the wood needs to be replaced. He thinks I should just leave it looking like total poo until it is replaced. I think it is eyesore and it either needs to be replaced now or put new siding on the darn thing. 🙄

We went by his work this weekend and of all the trucks lined up, you know how I could tell which was his?  All the junk on the dashboard.
