Hi all. I'm back after a period of silence with an update and another question...

 

SO I just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way here, especially to @sandranj for her support and dedication to helping all of us on here.

 

Since I last posted, I contacted my local dv resource center and have been seeing a dv advocate regularly, keeping her informed as to what is going on. She referred me to a therapist who works with the center and I've been seeing her every week for the past four weeks. I have to say that having some support is definitely helping.

 

My question:

 

When it comes to evidence of abuse and a psych evaluation, is a California state Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist a suitable person to provide a report, or do I need to seek out (and pay for) someone else?

The licenced marriage and family therapist is sounding like where couples go to heal their marriage..I'm not 100%  sure but I'm of the opinion that it's a different specialisation! Well if that's the same person that was referred to you by the DV officials..and they are able to keep seeing you..and be able to write you a detailed evaluation that will help your case then it may suffice! I know most times finance is a determining factor..but when it comes to proving/winning your case with USCIS..you need to do what you have to..so ask the therapist if they can deliver exactly what you need..then you'll have your answer!

I should probably have clarified that my therapist is an LMFT who specializes in domestic abuse, but she hasn't any experience with immigration. That's not a huge deal for me as my first need is for help coping and healing. Just hoping to kill two birds with one stone.

There you go! 👍 it will do just fine! She only needs to write you a detailed evaluation at some point of the ongoing therapy sessions describing your situation, what you've been through, how it affected you and what she is doing to help you..how you are/have responded to treatment, what she thinks about your situation in the long run/recommendations! If she can deliver like I stated in my last response then you have nothing to worry about! I hope this therapy sessions finds you in good place..and I hope by the end you won't hurt as much🙏😊 go easy dear.

There is no divorce subforum but you can post in off topic if you need to. Try contacting some legal aid places and see if they can help you file. Make sure you tell them its a domestic violence situation. They may be able to help you, they may not. Technically they are suppose to help DV victims but many legal aid offices are understaffed and have to turn people away. The only thing you can do then is keep contacting them to see if anything opens up or file on your own. Sometimes if you file on your own and then the other side gets an attny legal aid prioritizes it more and then will help... The divorce can be done with out attnys though if needed.

Personally I recommend using a Dr who is familiar with immigration matters. The evaluation needs to be written a certain way with certain terms and its best to use someone who has written them before. If you do use your current therapist you can send it to Sandra to review if it is good enough to use or not.

Card production..was March 28th..card mailed 1st of April...got it on the 4th.. Waited for approval update..which came on the 26th of April..then the actual letter came few days later..about 4 or 5days later after the update online that they will send my approval notice besides the online update. Does this help?
