I just got a police clearance from back home.

If you were back home in the last 3 years before filling VAWA for more than 6 months you need to submit that. Here is my experience, First send someone from back home to get information what is needed to get a clearance from your country police department. Check what they need from you.

My country needs an authenticated finger print, so I went to an assigned finger print services then notarise it at bank, went to city gov. for authentication, Department of state, Embassy of my home country then I sent the document. In my country you need a power of attorney then i sent a power of attorney. They had  notarise the documents at ministry of foreign affairs, then they took the document to police department of forensic examination, got the clearance and again notarise it at ministry of foreign affairs and they sent it back to me. You need to get it and mail it to USCIS. . If my experience helps.

Thanks for the prompt respond. I guess youcan not open it right? Because if its open, USCIS will probably assume that it has been tampered with.

mine is open, that is why you need to authenticate it at your country's foreign minister office after you get the clearance.

Hey guys, i hope you all are doing great toady. I am anticipating an RFE for good moral character particularly a police clearance from my home country. So i am curious about how to get it and how it is sent to USCIS. Do I have to order it and have the police department in my home country send it directly to USCIS or do they send it to me first, so that I can then send it to USCIS?. How exactly does it work?

Hi how about asking family or friends back home to enquire on your behalf? At least that's how I was able to get mine..they'll supply your details to your local police command and get the document for you! I guess it's different for everyone and different countries also...but since you're not physically on ground back home, someone back there preferably close family or friend should be able to get it done for you! It can be open...usually is...it's only transcripts and form i693 that I know come sealed! No it's not sent to USCIS directly..you send to them when it gets to you...mostly to avoid confusion! I hope this along side other contributions help!😊 👍

Hello. I filed for VAWA in November 2018. I just got divorced June 2019. I received my Prima Facie in December. What do I do now? I will need assistance as I need to move out of the house with my daughter and my alimony will end. I'll get a small lump sum alimony payment which I'll have to use a portion of to pay my legal fees. I'll end up with a very small amount.

I'm moving in with a friend but I need support cause child support has been reduced due to me ex having more time with my daughter. I can't work as I filed C-31 and will not have working papers for some time.

Do I need to report my name change as well and if so, to where?

I live in NJ.

Thank you for any of your replies.

You are eligible for social benefits such as food stamps and cash aid as well as medical, just bring your Prima Facie with you to apply in person at a local social service office.

Thank you. I tried on line but that was while I was still married and living in his house and I didn't follow through because it the NJ site asked who supported me and for his income. I will go to the local social services office in person instead, now that it's final.

Does not qualify as alimony is considered income and will be over the income guidelines for cash aid assistance.  Also, OP stated that has joint custody of daughter, so food stamps will be based on OP as daughter is only with OP 6 months out of the year.
