Yes. We had to go through the SAVE system. He was not issued anything until he got the letter from DHS. After that, he was given his permit, which we used to go to a driver's school in Hurst to take his test, as it was almost a six week wait to get a test through the DMV.

You got lucky - not everyone does. We've since moved to Indiana, where there's not as much BS when it comes to getting your license. :)

Did your spouse/fiancé already have a DL from his home country?

Yes, they didn't care. He didn't have relevant 'US' driving history.

What I was getting at, I grew up in Irving which is close to Hurst. As long as a car has insurance and he has a valid DL no matter which country then you can drive in D/FW area.

Oh! Yes! He totally did drive, we are just sticklers for following the law lest he get pulled over and someone not understand the immigration side of things. <3

I feel the same!!! I've had couple of people telling they were driving with their DL from Czech and their marriage license and they were just fine! I would feel much better with Texas DL in my hand
