Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for EAD expedite requests to be denied outright because the initial request was deemed to either not meet the requirements or to not be serious enough. The email you got is a default denial given in response to expedites and is not specific to your case (or even EADs).

What reasons did you give when making the initial phone call requesting an expedite? Do you have a job offer letter?

We said severe financial hardship - and he does an offer letter on company letterhead with a required start date.

Update: My husband called and spoke to a Tier 2 Supervisor (after 30 minutes on hold and another hour wait for them to call back... but they did call and were very nice).  The supervisor indicated that there was little information on his request so they flat out denied it.  He explained our financial hardship to the supervisor and mentioned that he does have a job offer, offer letter and invoices/information on our financial situation (evidence!!).  So the Supervisor said he was going to put our request back in the funnel??  And we should hear back on or before September 10.

Praying for a good outcome, we really need my husband to start working!

I will keep you posted.

Have you guys started applying for jobs yet? I know one of the first questions asked will be if you have work authorization when contacted from a job, but I’d really want to minimize the time being without a job once my EAD is accepted. I’ve worked on my resume and have been browsing job posts but it’s increasingly frustrating to just browse and browse without actually applying. The processing time went back to 3.5 months from 2.5, its been almost 2.5 since my NOA currently so I’m hoping that it’ll be another month or so...

I'm doing the same except I just tell them them I won't need sponsorship and would need 3 weeks notice time for my current employer.  My current employer needs only 2 weeks approval but I would probably need 3 weeks anyways to handover all the projects I do to someone else.

That’s the thing - I know it’s not easy to find a job hence I’d like a little headstart and at least try to achieve something sooner rather than later. Having said that, I’m sure employers get fairly annoyed reading applications from people who don’t have their permit yet but hey ho...

By interviewing, we are at least practicing our interview skills. Even if we don't get a job right away, it will only improve our chances in the future!

Best of luck to you all who are applying and interviewing for jobs!  My husband was going through the same thing and was so discouraged, but once the interview requests started coming it, they kept coming in!  Keep your heads up and press on, the perfect job is waiting for you and will turn up at just the right time!

Update 2 on our EAD expedite request - just went to our local congressman's office and sat with the constituent representative while she wrote and sent a letter on our behalf.  Also reached out to the Ombudsman and State Senator requesting letters on our behalf to expedite EAD.  We're going to keep working all angles d*mn it!
