How is everyone holding up dealing with newly married + immigrating finances and taxes and all that stuff.  Anyone have any particular tips and/or horror stories?

I just had to re-certify my student loan repayments and got slapped with all the "your spouse needs to co-sign and provide financial information" jargon I don't understand. He is being forced to create an account that requires a SSN. Thankfully he has his already but it made me think, what if he didn't have it yet, and I wasn't able to re-cert. My payments would double and I'd probably lose 5 years worth of loan forgiveness payments. These are all the minor details that got lost for me in the flood of immigration focus. SIGH. The things we do for love 😌

Hello everyone!  My husband and I sent our AOS/EOS to the Chicago Lockbox on June 6th and we still have not received any work via email or mail from USCIS.  The catch is that the check WAS cashed.  What do we do and who do we contact?  Can we check our case and if so, what receipt number do we need?  We are really upset about this and at a loss of what to do.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

so, it looks like our insurance problem is resolved for now. i got an email stating that my wife is on my insurance although, not with her married name.

deductions will start this next pay check.

bad news, we got a letter from social security administration stating that they acknowledge my wife applied for an ssn. But "Before they can issue a her ssn card, they must verify the documents she gave them to show her alien status with the federal, state or local office" and it May Take up to 4 Weeks...we applied for the ssn 4 weeks ago, and this letter was dated july 9th.  when will we get it???

here's a question that i would like get some opinions from anyone that has done this.

I changed my w-4 "work/tax withholdings" from single to married, and my exemptions from 1 to 2...

my net check was so much bigger. normally my take home was 69%, but it was 84% this paycheck. I know if i keep my withholdings this way, it will most likely bite me in the ### come next april. any suggestions if i should change my exemptions back to 1?

Does anyone (or your partners) have experience bringing your dogs from warm weather to cold snowy weather? I'm from Australia and am somewhat considering getting my dogs over here to Illinois, but it gets COLD in winter. My dogs are healthy and are currently in the care of my family in Australia. Would that be selfish? Can dogs adapt? They're not long furred. I know nothing about this, if it'd be selfish (i.e. they couldn't adapt) I wouldn't do it.

my old aussie shepherd(blue heeler) did ok when moving from a warmer climate. i think the transition from summer to fall to winter helped. the gradual weather change seemed to help her ease in to it.

Just did my biometrics in Bakersfield. Now comes the long wait 🙄😂

Status changes to “fingerprint review was completed”. Am I right that the next step is either “ready to be scheduled for interview” or RFIE (hope not :) )?
