Approved as in they accepted the submission and are going to process it, can take 2 weeks to a month. Actual final approval of EAD/AP can take up to 8 months, final approval of the i-485 can vary depending on your field office.

Our NOA1s showed up on informed delivery this morning. I'm a bit nervous about how immediate everyone's biometrics seem to be, we are about to head out of town through the 9th lol.

Hey Meghan,

my appointment for biometrics came exactly in a week after NOA1 and the appointment was scheduled 2 weeks after that.

Hope this helps!

Hi everyone.. I have a few questions:

i just received yesterday my mailed NOA1 (8 days after text - 15 days after file has been received)

1- i noticed both forms (i131 and 1765) shows the fees as “0,00” is that correct? Because I file all forms together and it’s shows only the total amount usd1225 at the AOS file.

2- has anyone from GEORGIA, who applied for Driver license?

Thanks and congrats to everyone :)

This is correct. Those fees are waived because you filed them with AOS. AOS is just expensive so thankfully we get those fees waived at least. $1225 was the right amount.

So I want to share my experience of applying for New York state driver's license while being on AOS, with expired F1, and soon-to-be-expired EAD (from OPT).  I went in to the Harlem DMV this morning (the line is horrendous btw - consider getting there by 8am and line up) to take the learner permit test. They don't even look at your proof of address etc until after you take and pass the exam, which makes sense. Since I already have a state ID, the lady at the counter wanted to see my social security card and two proofs of address. I showed her my passport then she pointed out that my F1 is expired, so I showed her my OPT EAD, then she pointed out that it's expiring in about couple weeks. I told her that I'm currently pending new marriage based green card, and i can show her the notice papers (I-797) and the marriage certificate. she said its not necessary. At this point she had to ask someone else in the back office regarding what to do with me; since i have less than 2 weeks left on my EAD, apparently the folks in Albany will not bother issuing a permit at this time. However, my written rest result (passing grade) will remain in the DMV system for one year, and I'm welcome to come back after I get a new EAD/AP card and continue with the permit application without having to take the test again. No, they won't give me a piece of paper saying "this person passed the written test", I'll just have to trust that it will remain on their system. Hopefully they won't screw this up when I show up a few months later with my EAD/AP card and try to do the application all over again...

Btw, the written test is a joke - they were 99% recycled from the practice test from the NY DMV website (https://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/drivers-manual-practice-tests).

I did my fingerprint today!

It was very quick process! My appointment was 8 in the morning and the local office was an hour driving from where I live.

I got there 15 min early and the office already opened for business.

Filled out the form they gave me which asked about my information - name, nationality, ethnicity, eye color etc,.

After finish the form, the officer gave me the waiting number.

And then my name was called, took the photo, scan my finger prints and it was all done.

The whole process only took less than 10 min.

Officers were very nice and friendly.

So now I need to patiently wait for the interview.

Hope you all guys can have fingerprints done soon!

I had similar experience with DMV.

In Arizona, I can get the temporary driver’s license from my Korean one without taking the test.

So I got the temporary one back in March and the staff told me I can extend the license after it expires in May.

In May, after it expires, I went to DMV to renew or extend and the same staff in March told me that I can’t get the temporary license renewed and I need NOA1 letter for AOS to get the regular license.

A week later  I filed the AOS, I visited DMV again with NOA1 letter and was told they can’t accept the NOA1 letter because it doesn’t guarantee anything. I need an actual green card or the letter saying my green card is approved. But this time, they told me I can apply for the travel driver’s license and handed me the list of documents to prepare.

Couple of days later, I gathered all the documents I need and came to DMV again and still couldn’t get the travel driver’s license.

Because my I-94 was also expired with my K1 visa. (Thought the expiration date is different from visa expiration date)

I was so desperate to get driver’s license cause I don’t wanna stay home all day and had to drive by myself for the fingerprint.

Right before I left there, asked them if I can use my international driver’s license and they said yes I can use that.

I should’ve done more research but this one DMV staff changes her words every time I went there.

Luckily, everything worked out in the end but I was so confused whole time 😕

I'm glad you ended up with a solution, I've read a lot about staff at certain places that don't know their own rules when it comes to immigration. Luckily I haven't experienced this YET.
