Okay so my husband and I got what you might describe as an "Arranged Marriage".  Which these days, is more like an "Arranged introduction with a recommendation from family members".

We met once with our families and agreed to get married. My parents were actually against it and kinda wanted me to say No.  Thus, as you can see, we both had the Final Say, even though our families were present and made recommendations.

This is common amongst people in my country, and i'm sure its common in other countries and for some of you reading this as well.

But i'm just wondering what my husband should say if his interviewers ask him:

"When did you first start to love your husband?"

or perhaps he might even get a more rude interviewer who asks "How could you possibly marry someone after meeting them just once?".

Any advice for how he should answer such questions?

I don't think they'd ever ask your husband that. Arranged marriages are common so they'd look more in regards to the facts: does he know your family, when/how did you meet, and they may ask for your wedding pictures.

Officers know the cultural norms of the country they are working in.

If he/she asks your husband "How could you possibly marry someone after meeting them just once?"

Tell the truth. We don't know why and when he fell in love with you but I'm sure at some point during the first meeting he felt like you are the one. Marriage with someone you met for the first can be quite intimidating. He definitely found something in you that made him say yes.  The reason behind the yes is his answer.

He might get a rude interviewer. If he does, the key to a good interview is being honest. When you are honest, you don't have to memorize anything. They observe your body language and also the way you speak. Just tell him to keep calm, be confident, smile and answer everything honestly.

Even though arrange marriages are common sometimes they do ask a lot of questions about it.

During the day of my interview, there was this other couple who were interviewed by the same officer who interviewed me. They had an arrange marriage and were asked a lot of questions about it. First meeting was set up by the parents and they married during his second visit. I heard everything cause I was sitting in the first row. Most questions were like

1) Is this a love or arrange marriage?

2) Why did you marry him? When did you realize he is the right person for you?

3) Show me your wedding album. I want to see who came over from his side. (They didn't have a wedding. Just court marriage. Just like us, their plan was to have a reception after getting the visa)

They were given a 221g with no additional documents asked. The passport was returned back.

can your spouse accompany you to the visa interview? or just the applicant?

If it's Mumbai, yes the petitioner can accompany the applicant. You need to take your US passport with you to enter the building.

You're welcome! You will have no issues going in. Just stand with your spouse and say you're the petitioner and show your passport. My husband attended the interview with me.

The interviewer was pretty pissed even before the interview started. He interviewed the other couple I spoke of above before me. My husband walked to the window with me. He was like, "Please go and sit down! Why are you here? It's your wife's interview not yours. If I need you I will call you." His tone was so rude. I pretty much knew that the interview won't end well. But the thing is he's the one who went through everything and approved me. He appreciated my honesty and told me not to worry and all that. They deal with so many people everyday. They are just as humans as we are so I understand that. Infact, on the same day and time there were 2 other spousal Visa interviews and all of us were given 221g.

Nooo I'm so sorry to hear! I bet you'll certainly get an August interview though. From what I've seen people will most likely be notified the week of the 8th, 15th or 22nd  of July so I've decided to stop obsessively checking my emails till then. The last person I saw with an Auckland interview waited from 5th March CC till 22nd May for the interview date, prior to that it was only taking around a month to have a date issued. I don't get what the hold up is, I really thought being from NZ would end up giving me an advantage :( At the very least it will all be over soon

I really hope we hear something soon. I can't seem to go an hour without checking my emails at the moment, even though I know its unlikely to hear anything at this time of the month. My lawyer thought it would only be a 2 week wait for an interview date based on previous applicants so I've no clue what the hold up is. I've called the NVC a few times and they've said its the consulate, consulate told my lawyer its the NVC meanwhile I'm stuck here in NZ alone as my husband had to go back to the states and Im originally from the UK.

This whole process is a real test of patience.
