Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could confirm for me whether or not at the K-1 medical exam with Dr. Cheema (Surrey, BC) if they were tested for Tuberculosis via a skin test. I  was immunized as a baby with B.C.G, which is known to produce false positives in TB skin tests, and I want to make sure this won't in some way delay the visa process. This vaccine was mandatory in my birth country, but isn't in Canada, so I think most Canadian fiances don't have this problem. I thought I would ask if anyone has encountered this during their medical for the K-1. It does seem to be something I will need to deal with when doing the medical exam for the adjustment of status. If someone has encountered this during the adjustment process, any info regarding that would be appreciated. My main concern tho is for the upcoming medical exam.

Thanks!

Hi, I will also be doing my medical exam Surrey this summer! But as far as the skin test goes, if you just let the Dr. know about your immunization you received as a baby they will just do an xray. Most just do an xray anyways :)

During your medical exam you will have a x-ray using their state of the art equipment to determine the likelihood you have TB. If something looks suspicious to the Dr. then he/she will ask for a DSSM test ( direct sputum smear microscopy) or what is commonly referred to as a sputum culture. It usually takes 3 consecutive days for the test and takes roughly around 2 weeks for the results to come out. You may want to call Dr Cheema's office and ask them to get exactly what their procedures are and how that is impacted by BCG. None of us here, I believe, are Doctors so our information is only "hearsay".

I asked a doctor and she told me it’s oke. I have had a bcg shot to. It’s not in my vaccination book but my scar is enough prove I guess. And I have my medical tomorrow.

Thanks for the input everyone, much appreciated. I did actually manage to confirm with Dr. Cheema's office that indeed a skin test should not be required only the chest x-ray. :)

When you know you will know. I applaud you for being proactive with calling the Dr. to confirm any suspicions you had. Now you know.
