Before you shut down your account, would you be receiving Canadian cheques anytime in the future? If so, you may want to keep it open and ask a family member or friend to deposit into your Canadian account. There's been lots of talk about depositing Canadian cheques into U.S. bank accounts. Some banks do it, others do not. I kept my Canadian account open and gave my sister my ATM card to do deposits. I transfer my money into my U.S. account through www.customhouse.com (no fees).

I kept open 1 acct in Canada, just so I could tx $$ back and forth with Customhouse!! Works like a charm!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My wife goes through spats of lonliness from time to time because she feels she'll never have the relationships in the States that she had in Canada. The winters aren't the best in Philly...they can get long and cold with a lot of snow. But the murder rate just hit 115 for the year so that's good.

Nini, I told my wife there was another Canadian in the Philly area on VJ so she said if you'd like to get together once you're here, feel free to PM me. There's also am ex-Pat Canadian group that meets in Manyunk the thrid Saturday each month. A co-worker whose husband is Canadian told me about it.

CIS Office : Philadelphia PA

08/25/09 I-751 Sent to VSC

08/26/09 Package arrives at VSC

08/31/09 Check is Cashed/Clears

08/27/09 NOA

09/24/09 Biometrics

11/24/09 Approval letter arrives!

Hehe, that sounds like fun! I'll be sure to keep that in mind once I make "the big move". :D

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Getting our sanity tested by bureaucracy since 2007.

Not a big deal, I can endorse them to my mom if I have to.

Scotia said there is no way to shut down an account from the US. It's just easier to do it now.

I took out the millions of dollars I had in that account and coverted it to American cash :)
