I would take Canada's weather any day over DC!! Much toO humid here!! I much prefer cold and snow!!

Amen brother! Oklahoma summers suck -- way too dang hot.

These Georgia summers are pretty much the same...they suck big time! I've lived here all my life and I still can't get used to the overwhelming humidity. UGH! Joel loves the A/C! Right now it's humid, dry as a bone (wildfire danger), and just plain miserable. Then when you go outside and sweat, the mosquitos think that's the dinner bell. Oi Vey!

My son and I moved here for a few different reasons.

Roger had been at his job for 22 years when I met him, and his son was only 9. I wouldnt have even thought to ask him to move away from his son at that age. Althou, I did have a great Gov't job at home. We both agreed for us to come to the US. I do like the Southern weather, but not when you can't breath when its in the high 90's. I like from March until July, and then again in Sept to Nov.

My two sons were 16 and 20 at the time. My youngest came with me, my oldest did not want to come for alot of reasons. Him having a girlfriend was one of them. I miss him so much thou. No matter how old your child is there is always something missing when your not near them. (F)

*hugs* I can't imagine not having my daughter near me. You're right though, no matter the age they are still your children. When Anna is older, 18, we plan on moving back to NS. Hopefully at that time she will want to go with us. Not sure what I'm gonna do if she says no. *sigh*

The umidity this past week has been brutal. Fortunatley we got a break this weekend. My wife, the Canadian hates cold weather. I love it. She had humidity in Ontario, but somehiw I don't think it was as bad as we have in the Philadelphia area. We have a basement apartment and no AC(windows are too small) so it gets a little moist in there. We have a dehumidifier, but that makes the place hot. With a baby on the way, that's ll the more reason to get out of there.

We moved in the US because my husband has 3 young children with his ex wife, and of course there was no way he would move away from them or take them to canada.

Also im from Quebec and even thought most of the things are bilingual, its still not so comfortable for english people, i've heard ;)

And he has a really good jobv here in the US and for me its easier to find a job, im a vet assistant so many vet hospitals and laboratories around here. Its also a good challenge and a good experience for my career.

He's in school, doing his PhD. There were lots of tears when he got his offer in Texas; we were hoping for somewhere closer to Canada. It made it impossible to carry on without getting married and coming down there, but we were already planning on getting married (eventually!!!) so this just made us move it up a few years. I'll admit I'm none too happy about going down to the US, but that's where he has to be for the next five years, so that's where I'll be.

After he's done school, we'll be going through this nightmare again, this time in the opposite direction. I hope there is a VJ for Canadian couples!

Texas is wonderful, I am sure you'll really enjoy it. I lived there for 5 years when I was a teenager- I had the time of my life and didn't want to go back to Canada! My husband and I might consider living there in a few years!

I'll be going over to the US because my fiance owns a house which he wouldn't be able to sell at a decent price or in a timely fashion due to the economy and when we met I had just moved back home with the parents. I have no issues going over to Michigan as I'll still be keeping my job here in Canada until someone in the US is willing to pay me what I make here LOL It just made more sense for me to go over. I don't think we'd ever live in Canada as the cost of living is a bit to get used to. I figure the opportunities over in the US are much greater and since I'm not big on weather we could possibly move to a state where I won't have to see snow again LOL

humidity in Southern Ontario is brutal in summertime. Humidity can go up to 100% + and the air will be so thick you can't breathe. I can't say that I've been to Philly in summertime, but I honestly can't imagine anywhere being more humid than Southern Ontario. If she's from the North, sure, its not *as bad* but in the South end, its disgusting. I sure don't miss the humidity up there one bit! People around here in Western NC complain if the humidity gets up to 40% pffffffffft, that's nuthin'!

Already I'm not looking forward to Philly weather. My fiance is already complaining that it's hot and sticky out, and his family has the A/C blaring all day. Compared to the rather mild weather in Vancouver right now, that's kinda scary.

I lived in Victoria for nearly 10 yrs!! Ur in for a wide awaening in Philly, if its like (maybe worse????) than DC!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Sounds like me... Vancouver --> Nashville. It's SO hot & humid! :o But I'm lucky to be working in Jasper, AB & northern BC this spring-summer.

To answer the original Q, I moved to the US because my husband's 5-year old son stays with us half-time and we wouldn't consider leaving him. :luv: We're planning to move to Vancouver when he grows up. Not much chance of me doing well in the South career-wise, so I'm commuting. :hehe:
