I've searched and searched guides and instructions, and can't find an answer to this one. If I'm overlooking it somewhere, I apologize.

I'm filling out the I 129f right now and though this should be an easy question, I'm stumped...

On town of birth (yes, I'm seriously questioning my town of birth!) my birth certificate states "Mather AFB" (which no longer exists) but the base was in Rancho Cordova, California. Do I put what's on the BC or do I put the actual town?! Or does it even matter?

I think if your BC says Mather AFB, that's fine. I don't think there would be a problem if you wrote Rancho Cordova either. I would probably match my entry to the BC, but I don't think you would get dinged for it (esp if the BC says "Mather AFB," because these are government people who understand what an "AFB" is - even if they don't know where it is located.)

I would put as City "Mather AFB (Sacramento)". I assure you Mather AFB still exists as a place, even if the base itself is closed.

Rancho Cordova celebrated the first day of cityhood on July 1, 2003, so Rancho Cordova was not the city of your birth.

Ah, but it says "town or city" right? My BC says the name of the district within the larger city in which i was born. mail gets addressed that way too. May not be a city, but it is where i would say i was born and where the paperwork says i was born. :)

What they are really concerned about is that it is a US location, otherwise, they'll be looking for other proof-of-citizenship evidence. (that's why they want the BC or the fully copy of the passport, etc).

Thanks both of you :) I wasn't sure since the base is closed, and with my luck, I'd get the whole petition returned for not knowing where I was born!

Was it called Rancho Cordova then? Because all my life my dad referred to it as such.

The area was probably still referred to as RC, and just kept the name after incorporation.

And I think the BX is still there and open - so the base isn't TOTALLY gone. Or not. Can't recall anymore.

My husband was born on an AFB in the Philippines. His BC says the name of the Base, but is also signed with the name of the city and that is what he puts in as his place of birth: Angeles City, not he AFB.

In your case I think either Mather AFB, CA or just Sacramento, CA will be fine.
