W2 and IRS Transcript

Give the consulate the extension document.  If that doesn't work, you will have to wait until the taxes are properly filed and a transcript is available.

I don’t think filing an extension is a good idea when you are in the process of sponsoring immigrants and need to prove you are able to sponsor. (Otherwise anyone could just file an extension to try get out of meeting the requirement? I don’t think that works. ) If the consulate requires the transcripts to process, suggest your sponsor get his/her tax return in ASAP so you can get the transcripts.

Extensions are given for filing not paying tax.  Taxes due must still be paid at the time of the extension to avoid penalty.

Since the embassy is specifically requesting the transcripts that is what I would give them.

Tax transcripts are being required more and more. Returns are subject to manipulation, theoretically possible to print a tax return using software without them having been filed.

The embassy requires exactly what's being asked for, even if it takes time for the transcripts to be available.
