I got my NVC case number over the phone today, but it won't be shipped out to embassy for another 2 weeks, and i'm guessing another 2 weeks before my fiancé receives a letter.

Can I go ahead and fill out DS-160, get embassy appointment, and  get medical done?

Tried doing DS-160, it keeps timing out after personal info, and kicking me out. could it be too early?

The case number is not liked to the DS-160 at this stage. So you can fill that out whenever you want. Try a different browser and keep saving after completing each section.

People, just to be corroborate... 

The notice date is indeed the date that they approved the petition correct? Not the date that both new or old website show but the date on our NOA2 correct?

Today is a big day for some as your case file may ship out to your embassy. Check CEAC for updated progress and look for "in transit"!! If that shows you are on your way. Shipments are throughout today and tomorrow so don't get discourage if your record at CEAC has not changed over to "in transit” Also, for those who want to have a little fun in tracking your shipment see the DHL hack on the first page of this thread NUMBER 19 for instructions. NOTE: The DHL hack information will not be available till Wednesday as the DHL and NVC computers must sync with each other to produce the outcome.

 

You have three stages 1) transit - shipment is in the air or soon will be, 2) received - physical case file is at the Embassy and 3) ready - your case is ready to schedule and complete your interview.  These will be your current state or status to your case file once you have received the case number. Once your record is set to "ready" you are ready to proceed in processing your next steps as listed in your P3 for your embassy.  I have most P3 if you hit me up with a request, I will post back the links.

 

Please don't screenshot and post your CEAC status as it just clutters up the thread. We all know what it looks like. Let us know your progress as we want to celebrate with you. Good luck.

For any purpose, use the official dates that appear on the documents sent to you and not necessarily the ones that appear on a governmental website. So, yes use the date on the NOA2 for your purposes.

Use chrome it's much more friendly to the completion of the DS-160.

I'll invite you to do a little homework as I personally don't dig deep into every embassy's procedures so I refer you to the information below.

 

Here is the letter that you will receive from Mumbai Embassy. Read it over carefully and follow the instructions. Another member of VJ added some additional information contained below which outlines what he experienced.

Once you received your case number from NVC,  I would recommend you fill out DS-160 form and submit. Some say the packet 3 letter is nothing just waste of time same thing they have mention which you easily get from USCIS website when you called to the clinics to book your medical appointment date they will ask you have you received your packet letter or not. Just say yes and booked the appointment date however you will receive that letter within 2 weeks the day you will get your NVC number.  Your mileage may vary.

Go on USCIS website make your account with password and then pay your fees to Citibank or Axis bank. They will give you reference number. With that number you can book your biometric and interview appointment date. The fees are 18,500 and for medical but I recommend that you carry 20,000 with you in the event you need more. Be sure to  keep at least 7 days gap between medical and interview.

Why do you need to see the sample letter from the embassy. There are other things more important. See my reply from one of your other anxious inquires above.

Folks if you don't read my "buckle up" post carefully you are missing out on some very important information for your next steps to the Embassy interview. Just saying.
