well, that is good to know. One draw back is, you need to be on the computer and make a call. There are several way you can communicate with your love one in Vietnam. Vonage does work in Vietnam. Just hookup the box to the internet, you can call to Vietnam as your local number and they can also call you in the State (to any cell, home numbers). This way you can also print out the phone logs from Vonage for prove on the interview. Savingcall.com for calling card. These are the 2 i used until now to communicate to People in Vietnam.

Can you give us more info? Like which package, regular $24.99/month, setup the number in the US then take the whole Vonage's box to VN and plug it in VN's internet and it will work?

My wife uses http://www.pingo.com to call her family in Vietnam. It is $0.08/minute, and you can use your landline or cell phone to call.

Last year i paid around 29 cents a min to call vietnam. Boy how things have changed.

last time I brought my Vonage phone to vietnam it got burn . because the voltage there is 220V . I brought the sh it back and dint have time to request for a new 1 .

OK Here is the deal...........

IT's depend on how much time you spend on the phone per month. For Vonage they have 2 plans:

$14.99 for 500 Minutes = 8 hours and Half of talk time - Will work for some people

$24.99 unlimited minutes = Best plan

Voltage in Vietnam is different then in US - The box that work for me was LInksys box, it got the voltage range up to 240 Volt on the adapter. If you will buy one, please look it on the adapter make sure it can handle voltage up to 240 Volt or else it will get burn like Thai Pham did.

Once you sign up with the service, you need to activate it here. Make sure u select the number that is local for you (both home and Cell phone) so you don't get charge for a long distance call.

WHen you bring it to Vietnam, plug it in to the Internet cable from the router to your box. It will take under 1 minute for your box to get update with ip address and you will get a dial tone. If you don't get a dial tone. please check your Phone adapter manual. You may need to follow the instruction in there to reset the box so you can get an IP address in VIetnam. IT had happen to me on this. When this part done then, you on your way of saving money and a clear call.

From time to time, you may get a bad connection. IT had happened and been happening right now because of the interenet connection in Vietnam. DOn't get frustrate........ Goto your Vonage account online and change the Setting under Feature, Bandwidth Saver: and change the setting to 30KPS. THis will help a bit.
