Divorce Decree

Hello,

 

I am helping my fiance gather her required documents for her interview at the US Consulate in HCM.  On the K Instruction Packet for all required documents for the interview, it states to bring the original and copy of divorce decree for the petitioner.  I got a divorce, but only have a faxed copy of my divorce decree.  Will they accept a copy or do they require the original?  Do I need to contact the court house and request a certified copy of my divorce decree?  Thank you.

Yes, get certified copies. You'll need them for the visa interview and also when adjusting status.

Ok thanks!  I wish I knew they were going to need an original copy earlier as I leave next week for HCM so it's going to be a tight squeeze getting a copy  😕

Maybe you can get the copy you have certified by a clerk at the court house?  If it doesn't arrive in time for your trip, bring what you have and let them know your fiance will deliver an original as soon as it's received. - jason

I ended up getting a copy overnighted from the court clerk so I had it in time, but at the interview they did not ask her for any of my paperwork (divorce, birth certificate etc).
