Hello all! I was searching for experiences at medical interviews in Toronto for people who have had depression and anxiety (one attempted suicide for me way back in 2010). Latest I found was June 2018 and I know how fast rules change. Anyone have any tips for 2019? What to bring from family doctor... I've only been with my fam doctor for a few months. My psychiatrist is also new. a month old . even getting a specialist appointment was a feat on its own. my old fam doctor didn't want to refer me so that's why i switched to a new one. sorry i digress. my old beloved psychiatrist is in the Philippines. Any tips?! Don't want my approval delayed.

I tried posting this on the Canada regional forum but I'm not sure if it posted (still trying to navigate this VJ thing). I had depression and went into remission in 2015 but now on meds for anxiety. I had one suicide attempt in 2010. I did some research and found some accounts of people who did their Toronto medicals but the latest was June 2018. I know how fast things change in the process so was wondering if anyone more recent had any tips on what to bring to the medical so that they don't hold the mental illness against me. I'm fully functional - have a job and contributing to society. Not a harm to myself or others.

I'm preparing the following.

I don't have my hospital discharge anymore. I lost them as I moved from the PHilippines to CAnada.

Letter from GP (i've only been with him 2-3 months)

Letter from psychotherapist (same amount of time)

Letter from psychiatrist in the Philippines about my history.

Does anyone else have any tips?

You have pretty much what you need.  A letter from a psychologist or psychiatrist ststing you are no longer a danger to yourself and others along with a list of any medication you are on.  I suggest bringing the meds to the medical.

Thanks will do that. Wonder if letter from family doctor will suffice. I have one from psychotherapist and an old one from my former psychiatrist but Ive only seen my new psychiatrist once.

That should be more than fine. I understand it's hard not to overthink it though.  I thought my depression was long gone before immigration.

It may flare up after the move. Just be aware.

Ohhh yeaaah. When I moved to Canada I didnt get depressed but I had my very first anxiety attack. It was horrible and COMPLETELY unexpected. I know now to be prepared.
