Reschedule Biometrics Appointment

Hey Everyone,

So we just received the text from USCIS that they have received our I-751 Removal of Conditions petition. Something I did not consider when sending in the petition is that my husband (the immigrant) will be out of the country during the last two weeks of June. I've just realized that USCIS may schedule his biometrics appointment during this time. Does anyone know the process for rescheduling a biomtrics appointment, or does anyone have experience in this?

It might not end up being an issue, but in case USCIS does schedule it for when he is away, I wanted to have a plan in place for rescheduling it. It is not an option to change the dates of the trip as he needs to be at a specific event.

Thank you all!

The biometrics appointment notice, itself,  has instructions for rescheduling...You mark "Please reschedule my appointment" and return to an address. .....but please be aware that it also has a warning that failure to appear is abandonment...

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

You can try to change/reschedule the Biometrics appointment, however, there have been reports of the ASC scheduling minions not communicating very well with the folks in the ASC Field Offices. Actually there is a current thread in the forum where the folks couldn't make the biometrics appointment due to illness, there was a ASC communication snafu, they got a cancellation notice due to no show. The net effect is the  petitioner cannot or does not make the Biometrics appointment, due to communication snafus, even if it is their fault. USCIS has been very strict about following through with their printed in CAPITALS statement on the ASC Biometrics Appointment Letter, "IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR AS SCHEDULED, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED." The choice is yours, but I know when we were chasing the ROC, we went to the appointment that they had scheduled...no question!

YMMV

Good luck on your immigration journey.

I hope the schedule falls in your husband's favor.  It is really dicey to try to reschedule.  Someone in my N-400 month was delayed OVER A YEAR because he had to reschedule the biometrics.  If at all possible, try to keep the appointment.  If you cannot, then I wish you the best of luck!  The journey will be over some day!
