It seems like US immigration laws, particularly the public charge law and potentially the entire visa system are about to be changed.

All you have heard is policy proposals from the Executive Branch, with an opposition party controlling one of the chambers of the Legislative Branch and given the current state of affairs of relations between the two, no overhaul of the INA is likely to be passed anytime soon.

Before this process, I didn't know jack diddly squat about immigration. However, there is plenty of info on VJ and the internet in general about how to navigate through this process and with these resources I managed to successfully file the I-130, have it approved, get through the NVC stage and get my husband's interview, in which he was just approved for his visa last week (entire process took exactly 364 days from start to finish).

As others have said if you have a simple case with no criminal legal matters involved, you can do it yourself. Save the money. This process is already expensive enough without paying unnecessary fees for lawyers or visa services who can't speed up the process in anyway.

Good luck on your visa journey!

Thank you! Ours isn't complicated outside of a divorce on her end, so we should be okay I think to do it ourselves. I appreciate the help!

I used RapidVisa back in February when I filed. At the time when I paid for RapidVisa, I didn’t know VisaJourney existed and found it only after I had paid RV. Now I wished I had known about VJ earlier, as RapidVisa only fills things out from the info you give them and of course you still have to find out yours and your spouses info and evidence yourself. And, unlike the people here on VJ, the people on RapidVisa for the vast most part don’t have any actual first hand experience with immigration, only what they have been told to do by the company. I knew from the get-go that it wouldn’t make the visa any faster but I was afraid of messing the paperwork up. But if I knew VJ existed I would have just used VJ to ask what is right or wrong to do and would have just done it myself. (Also, the RV people are annoying about evidence; they think that only financial things and affidavits count as evidence when of course all the people here on VJ have proven otherwise. RV made me send them an email with a written statement of me telling them to send my application as-is because they insisted I include 2 affidavits and I refused as I didn’t want to waste time sending more to them and told them I was going to stick with my pictures, boarding passes, receipts, tickets to things, etc)

An even better question is, "Am I a detail oriented person, sufficiently capable and dedicated to diligently, faithfully, and effectively study and follow all instructions for forms?"  Some will be wrong when they answer all those questions with a yes.  Some will be right.  Some will get lucky.

As for the evidence, this is what I included with our I-130 petition :

- Marriage certificate (of course)

- Bank statement of our joint account

- PDF files with 10 pages and 9 pictures per page, since we met, showing all the trips, family, friends...

We didn't include the affidavits since we've been reading on this forum that they often don't make a difference.

We didn't include boarding passes or copy of chats either since we lived in the same country for 2 years, and then traveled the world together for another 2 years. So we thought the pictures would be enough, and they were. I think if you don't have financial evidence like a joint account, it's good to put as much evidences as you can, so that's when the boarding passes, copy of chats etc are useful in my opinion.

As a side note my partner and I ONLY submitted an affidavit from my father in law as evidence of bonafides, and our I 130 got approved. Not to say it's a bad thing to include more but it's definitely not required in all cases.
