I-130 Place of birth city name change

Hi everyone, I have a question about my situation on form I-130, I am the petitioner and was born in a foreign country. The city where  I was born on my birth certificate changed its name several years after I was born. Should I put the new city name in I-130 or fill in exactly as it appears on the birth certificate? Thanks.

Put whatever exactly the name of the city as it states on your birth certificate. When it comes to immigration you need to be consistent with your information. Now when you go to the interview and there is a question raised about non existent city. That is when you explain that the city’s name has changed.

Correct.  Consistency follows accuracy and truth.  For example, people who were born in Leningrad or Saigon, were born in those cities, not St. Petersburg or Ho Chi Minh City.  Immigration officials understand this.
