My husband didn't get his visa after the interview in Guangzhou because the wrong form had been filled out by my mother, our joint sponsor.

We were given a form asking us to mail these things in, and I quote:

Quote

1.  Original and signed affidavits of support I-864 from joint sponsor for each applicant.  If joint sponsor’s income is combined with spouse or cohabitant submit original and signed I-864A from the joint sponsor’s spouse or cohabitant.

2.  Original and signed I-864A from the joint sponsor’s spouse or cohabitant for each applicant

3.  IRS-issued tax transcript for the most recent year and all supporting financial documents needed to verify the income reported on tax returns, including W-2s.

4.  Statement, written by your joint sponsor, explaining why he/she is willing to agree to sign your affidavit of support.

I’m worried about the “original and signed” part.  Does that mean my parents, who are in America, would have to send the signed pages in the mail to me, in China?  Will they not accept scans I had printed out?  This will set us back more time if I truly have to wait for her mail.  Mail in my part of China is not particularly reliable, as well...
Thanks in advance.

They shouldn't require a wet ink signature, as the Department of State accepts scanned or photocopies of all i-864's and other documents, as long as they were signed and not a typed or stamped signature.  You may want to contact and clarify with them if it is ok, because it's understandably difficult to send anything to China ,and would be a massive timesaver.  Perhaps their generic info sent is out of date compared to the USCIS and DOS website, or their office has special policies.

If you do contact, I'll be interested what they say, because I'll be going through the same process in GZ later in the Summer.

Out of curiosity, what was the wrong form your joint sponsor filled out?
