Reminds me of this real-life comedy skit I saw once – where a guy goes into an upmarket italian restaurant where the waiters hand-grate the parmesan cheese over your food. When his food turns up, the customer didn't say 'when', he was just doing it to see how long the waiter would continue to grate the cheese. Guy went through a whole block of parmesan, then went back to the kitchen for a plate of pre-grated. Only when the customer demanded more and the waiter arrived with yet another block of parmesan did he even think to (politely) say no. By that time there was a mountain of cheese on the plate, and the waiter had been grating it for over 10 minutes.

FAMILY GUY!!!

I think it was probably before that - about 4 years ago or thereabouts, on a show similar to Trigger Happy TV.

What happened to a good ole fist fight to settle problems? Sheesh!

No kidding. I'm wondering how long the guy had kept a gun in his car and whether or not he had a permit for a concealed weapon. Is it just too tempting to pull a gun on somebody whenever tempers flare?

Why do I keep thinking of that episode of Fawlty Towers where a frustrated Basil Fawlty thrashes his broken down car with a tree branch?

You know if he had a gun he'd have used it - first on the car, then on the spanish waiter.

I was in a Togo's recently ordering some sandwiches. The guy at the sandwich maker next to me was being very particular about his sandwich. First he suddenly shouted, "Stop! No more mayonaisse." Then "add some more meat." And insisted on seeing all the vegetables, and said no to most of them. "You got any more?" The sandwich maker showed him a few more choices, and he said "yes" to a couple. Then he asked for "More mayonaisse on the other half." When it came time to pay and it was $7.50 for a regular $5.99 sandwich, he got very upset and demanded several times loudly to know what he was paying extra for. Anyway, I was very afraid he was going to cause a violent commotion or worse. Fortunately he paid and left with his sandwich.

Can beat that. Just the other week - in this lunch place I go to in the city, the guy in line behind me told the server to f-off and stormed out because the server misheard what he said and put the wrong dressing on his salad.

Seemed a bit of an extreme reaction for an honest mistake. Not like it would have taken them long to remake it the right way...

people think waiters and food makers in restaurants are slaves... those arseholes should work in mcdonalds for a week, so they know how does it feel to be on the other side

Well the other side of it - I've experienced my fair share of bad waiting staff.

I’ve had several bad Starbucks experiences where the barista knowingly use fat free milk in drinks that specifically ask for 4%. I usually catch that and ask them to remake it – but occasionally not, and the coffee tastes tastes disgusting. I mean its $5 of my money – resent buying it if its not going to be made right.

I have complained on several occasions when the wait staff answer back and blatantly lie to cover their butt (if I've seen them do something and they get all confrontation about it and insist that they didn't) - I don't trap off at them - that's best left to the managers. Always good to complain about things like that - as it makes the management address training issues. Plus you get free stuff for your trouble.

I do so applaud your correct use of the term 'arseholes' - I don't think I have seen it before on vj - and vj's expletive checker stars out the inocuous American alternative otherwise meaning 'wild donkey'..

how strange it should ban the 'wild donkey' word but not 'arsehole'

Anyway that qualifies you as having an excellent standard of English so let nobody tell you any different.

Personally I deplore the ubiqitous scattering in almost every VJ post, of every word associated with bits and bobs residing twixt the waist and the knees (shins in some cases)

but I am more than happy to see this one as the quality of the word usage made up for it

Hmmm... is that really mean't to be as patronising and insulting as it sounds?

Common courtesy isn't always that common.

If someone works a customer service oriented job they need to remember one thing - the customer is always right.

Customers need to remember that it's a human being on the other side of the counter.
