I had my interview today.....I have a mixed review to report!

The good news: the actual interview (when it finally happened) was quick and simple and I received the N-652 notice that my application was recommended for approval. I will focus on the good outcome.

But there's a back story....

My appointment was around 1pm. I was there by 12.15pm to check in and was given a ticket number (letter + number). The scene was chaotic (at least 100+ people in the waiting area) and it wasn't really clear in what order people were being seen. People had a letter (either K-O) and a number (e.g. 50/60/70). As time went by I started to think something wasn't right as people with ticket numbers well after mine started being seen. At 2pm I went to the counter and asked if there was an order in which people are seen within their letter category and I was told no. At 3pm I went back and spoke to a second person who said the same thing. At 3.20pm, as the pattern continued, I approached a third person who was more helpful and said to me "Oh, I saw your number in the system as a no show" - what the hell?? My number was never even called out during the 3 hours I was sitting and waiting!!  He then spoke to someone else (a very helpful supervisor) who then approached me on a few different occasions saying he would look into it and that he apologized for the long wait (I appreciated his response/concern). It seems the case worker who was assigned my case for whatever reason put me in the system as a "no show" - meanwhile I was literally sitting in the waiting room for hours with my ticket number wondering what was going on. The supervisor was very apologetic and quickly arranged for someone else to see me.

I was eventually seen around 4pm and it was easy but now I see online that it says "we scheduled your interview today - you will receive the notice shortly". So rather than the system saying "you attended your interview or we approved your case" it says "we scheduled your interview (TODAY) and will send you a notice." It seems the first case worker who decided (I don't know how) that I was a '''no show" then issued me a new interview letter. Maybe that status will get overwritten when the second case officer updates my case as approved? I can only hope. I had been hoping for a quick end to this citizenship saga so this late-stage fiasco didn't leave me feeling good. This was all very stressful and who knows what would have happened if I had not kept pressing the issue and asking what was going on! From the 100+ people present when I arrived there weren't many left in the waiting room by the time I finally had my interview.

For other people who received the "recommended for approval" notice at the end of the interview, how long did it take for the online system to reflect the change in status?

My updated profile tonight: I attended the interview TODAY and was recommended for approval (have the N-652) but this is what it says online....

I called USCIS today and the rep was able to confirm that the record says I attended the interview.

I'm so happy for you. I know you'll probably disappear after your oath but you have helped so many of us with your research and checking on timelines. Be sure to let us know how when your oath is scheduled.

BTW, You are the best person to ask. I am in the Bronx but could possibly move to Brooklyn in the next month. DO you think it will make a difference?

I know Brooklyn is about 10 months despite what the processing timeline say.

I won't disappear! And yes will provide an update when I get it regarding the oath!

Brooklyn is a bit quicker but I think you have to live there for 3 months before you can be interviewed there?

I was speaking with a Bronx applicant during the hours-long wait. He had also applied in April 2019. As he left his interview smiling I literally walked in for mine!

That's 2-3 months before I sent in mine so I'm not very optimistic at the moment that I'll get an interview soon. But anything can happen. If I do get an interview scheduled notice soon, it will be a very pleasant surprise.

Was it ever clarified to where they transferred your case?

I haven't tried contacting them and still no updates in my account. I'll probably call someone at the beginning of March if I don't get anything.

Yes, I think they should be able to at least let you know which office now has your case.

Seems like you filed 40 days or so after I did. My interview was scheduled on Feb 21st so you should probably get something around Apr 1st. 🙂
