Hello all,

I’m sure this has been asked before, sorry if it has.

My fiancé (Canadian) and I (American) just got notice that she was approved and the K-1 was being sent to NVC for processing. After it’s sent to NVC it goes to the consulate.

Do we need to contact the consulate to get her sent the packets?

Or will they send those without us contacting them?

How do we schedule the medical appointment for the K-1?

How do we schedule the appointment at the consulate for the interview?

Or is that all included in a packet?

Thank you,

Again sorry if it has been asked before but I couldn’t find it (guess I wasn’t searching the proper terms or something).

Consulate will contact you when your petition is at the US Montreal Embassy. After that they will send you Packet 3, then you reply to it. They will send your Packet 4 by E-Mail, then you will schedule your Medical Exam and Interview. Right now is a good time to get your documents together for Packet 3.

So they will contact my fiancé in Canada or me in America? (Just confirming)

Is packet 3 by email or mail?

You will get Packet 3 in the mail, both you & your fiance.

After you get a NOA2 your documents will be sent to NVC, After NVC gets it it will be sent to US Montreal Embassy, once it is there your status on NVC case status website will be changed to "Ready." Once it is ready you can submit your Packet 3 check list & Passport biographic page by email to the Montreal embassy email and they will then send you packet 4.

To answer your question about Packet 3, both get it sent to them in the mail asking you to send it in. :)

FYI.  I never received my packet 3 to this day.  I just sent the info they needed when I saw others receiving their packets 3

To add to the variation, my P3 was received via e-mail. My petitioner did not receive anything.

So just to confirm, for packet 3 it’s all for the beneficiary. It’s none of the petitioners information (except the declaration and the I-134). Right?

Right.  They are checking everything off on a checklist and submitting it back to Montreal (and a copy of their passport biographic page, etc.).  It's a refreshingly easy step.

Yes, the beneficiary will handle P3 and P4. P3 will look something like this (PDF): https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-K1.pdf

Any items in P3 that apply to your case should be brought to the interview, originals and photocopies. Also note that only visa applicants are allowed into the Consulate on interview day. You can still visit Montreal to be with your fiancee -- just not during the interview.

I had a question about the P3, would my drivers license, vehicle registration and a bill be enough for address verification or would they want something else? I couldn’t get USCIS to give me an answer “you’re gonna have to speak with an attorney about that” is what I kept getting from them.

I'm not sure what address verification is... do you mean proof of domicile? That would be like lease agreement, tax returns, documents to prove that you actively reside in the US. For the interview we brought the first two and they sufficed.

Yeah that’s what I was referring to sorry. I’ll just send my fiancé those and they should work.

Lol pay stubs and tax returns are enough for domicile.  Things you need for the I-134
