Ask at your GP if there is anything that got left off your list because as well immunized as you are, surely you got pertussis as an infant. A lot in the UK get diptheria/tetanus/pertussis/+polio (quadvalent meaning 4 in 1) as normal childhood jabs.

If that fails, ask what they can give you. The stronger DTP was found to adversely affect people over about age 10 so Tdap was developed. I've seen jab forms refer to it as "low dosage" diptheria/tetanus/pertussis. It all counts for immigration and doesn't have to be the exact American terminology Tdap. I was literally lined up with babies waiting for my DTP. There had been a shortage and when they got some, they called everybody to say come in.

Booked in for 4th July - I’ve said that my vaccination chart either needs updating to reflect that I’ve had it (if I have) or I need it - and was told that’s fine 🙃. Will get a new vaccination chart and healthcare summary printed afterwards too.

I always sweeten the deal when I ring up demanding things from my GPs...”I appreciate how much of a pain I am, but just think how much money the NHS will save in prescriptions alone when I emigrate 😆😆😆.”

Sweet, I called up and got my NVC number and booked my medical in for the 2nd.  Your GP surgery seems very helpful and went out of there way for you which is awesome I on the other hand was not so lucky on that front.  The only thing they would offer me was a hep A & B combi (which I don't require for the visa, but took anyway 😅) everything else they told me they would not cover and would be required to get externally, which I have, all but pertussis.  Many of the major brands like boots and Lloyds don't seem to do them, even Knightsbridge themselves only give revaxis.  I even called to query it, but the answer was flaky so i managed to source it from emcare travel health clinic for this coming Monday just to cover my bases, fun time 😆😅

Thanks for the tip!

To be honest, I always give a hint at how viciously argumentative I can be if I don’t get what I want in situations like this...and I think everywhere just gives in cause they don’t want to hassle 😂😂.

If they don’t have pertussis available at my doctors, I’ll check with Knightsbridge - and if they don’t have it, I’ve found a private travel clinic that can do it for £65 🙃

What?!??! 🤦🏻‍♂️😳

To clarify I changed my GP 2 years ago, when I applied for my vaccine records my past vaccinations from my previous practice where not there, even though said records should have been passed on to the health board and transferred to my new practice.

I even called NHS Scotland to get my previous medical history from them but was just referred back to my current GP.  However my current GP has not been very forth coming with regards to providing me with vaccinations and would only offer me the hep A + B combi (this was back in January) which I decided to take seeing as I had no record of any vaccination history at all, which I know not to be the case but wanted to cover that base never the less and have subsequently had to get all other required vaccinations privately, which sucks considering I have read others have freely and easily got access to said vaccines without issue through their own NHS GP practice

I just thought it odd to get something not recommended or required for adults. You like shots?

The US Immunization list says Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis. Tdap

If there is no record of having a pertussis shot as a baby, then how can you get ticked off for it?

If you have Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis recorded sometime in your life, but not in the last 10 years, then Tetanus/Diptheria Td is the top up shot.

Hi Zoe,  some GP surgeries have the shot with pertussis in, but not all provide it for immigration purposes free of charge. I work for a private travel clinic which provide Pertussis vaccinations if you come unstuck. But it will likely be easier for you to get it done at Knightsbridge on the day.  Feel free to message me if you have any questions. 🙂

In America and Australia it’s very common for ‘cocooning’ to happen around newborn babies. So they want people who will be around little ones to have had the pertussis (whooping cough) injection. Although not as common, adults can also get whooping cough. If it’s on the required vaccinations list then to me it makes sense to get it ASAP to save problems later on at AOS🙂

Your visa is issued to expire 6 months after your medical date. I would personally do it in October, just to be sure - you don’t have a lot of wiggle room if you do it in September and you have virtually none if you do it in August.

I’m having mine at the end of July, with a hopeful leave date of mid-November.
